Yes, want the clover, but not the crab grass. Clover for the bees, and it fills in the bare patches. Grass grows in my yard in clumps.
So if you are too early with the pre emergent you will kill the clover but too late the crabgrass won’t be killed? Sounds like an endeavor that will require perfect timing.
They say to put the pre- emergent down when the forsythia blooms. But I'll wait until I see the clover get a good start. Crabgrass germinates all summer long, at least I'll catch some of it.
70's? Grass is greening? You guys are spoiled! The entire yard is white once again; it had melted to around 75% cleared of snow. I'll bet those early bird robins are regretting their choice of returning! I think the saying goes something like-robins have to be snowed on three times before spring stays. Ever hear anything like that? 28 this morning and maybe we'll see a peek of sunshine tomorrow. (vitamin D ain't helping much!) I have to shovel some more outside....!
60* here suppose to get to 70* today no fire last night. I'll give it a couple weeks then clean out the OWB.
30f, overcast, no wind finally. This feels good right now...poplar and black ash again. They are saying 47f and sunshine for tomorrow.
Turned out really nice yesterday afternoon except for the wind. Got up to 60! Today 50 is the forecast high.
High 60s today, but not a real pleasant day. Cloudy and clammy. House stayed 68+ though without fire, so it's all good. Mama said warm enough, no argument from me! Will surely need one in the morning. First 24hr period without fire since September, I think! Got a few totes full cut down and brought in, and ran around with mini-me blowing bubbles and chasing bugs all afternoon. Almost have the back yard back, just a few spots that are still like walking on a water bed.
Hey snowbirds! 50s today on a calm lake Erie. Burning maybe a bit at night and a bit in the morning but no more naked runs in the night. Yeeha! Question....im looking in my firebox and seeing a couple bricks looking like they aren't crumbling but are gouged out maybe the size of a Kennedy dollar...or was that half dollar...you just don't see those anymore...anyhow should I be concerned? How are y'all anyhow??
We actually got to 69 today and I’m letting the Fireview go out for the first time in 6 months. I didn’t add any this morning and it’s still almost 200. Might need a little fire in the morning but it’s 76 in here right now so I think we’ll be fine. It was actually humid out today and that I can do without. It was great to do a little something outside!
Glad to hear from you once again. Nothing but white outside here! As far as the Kennedy 1/2 dollar (50 cent piece) sized gouges go, I wonder just how the heck they got there? If they aren't deep, I would wait on replacing them but it does create a weak spot in the brick and may eventually worsen or crack there. I don't think firebrick are all that expensive....Menards has 'em for just over $13 for six this week. Nice how I refrained about commenting on firing up during the night time too, huh? Dang it, I just did!
Ok yooperdave thanks for the chime in but how the heck do you change a brick? Notice I'm more concerned about my fire box than the fire at night....double meaning ...
They are removed and installed in a certain order so as to help keep them in place. Some people take pics of the bricks before they begin to remove them, others rely on owners manuals for proper placement. Sometimes it hard to know if you're funning with me or not!
A bit cool in the house, so I split up a few splits into smaller splits and now we have a smaller split fire going. I'll lay on a "normal" split in a few minutes. Done
32F with a 15mph NE wind. 24 feels like. Sleet, snow, & rain all in one mess, not a nice day! Oak & Ash in the boiler. Won't shut down anytime soon.
