Got in 4 hours today. What a dif using the bucket to carry, even the few feet to the shed. Could hold the wood where ever I needed for easy stacking too. Shut the splitter off with each bucket, so burned half as much fuel too. Using the crane to drag and lift rounds now that the tongs are sharp. Big help. Really liking the lil crane and tongs set-up I remembered Fan's comments on oak's heavy weight and the strands holding splits together… they aren't fun. Used the tongs to lift and rotate the half split round so I could slice the opposite side. Some rounds had to be over 100 lbs. 2 racks stacked, 3rd started, the rest should be at least a rack and a half. Pushed all of the rounds over with the bucket so I can stick em easier with the tongs next time. Good day. Sunny and windy, which was nice. Hoping to finish up this wood next session and get down to the new pile. I will NEVER store long logs over 6 months again. Ants were in a few splits again today. I know all creatures want to live in the woodpile… but I hate helping them move in…

Thanks HF. While I was working today, I'm sizing up the end of the shed for the next section to be added on. Gonna do that this summer and stack the logs I pulled this last spring in there. Then, just small stacks along the wall. Grass season is gonna slow all that down tho I'm sure…
It's bolted down to the trailer decking and I made a collar for it at the top of the rail, to help it out a little.
Very nice set up. Looks efficient too. We've got wood that still needs to be split, and we are supposed to get rain seven out of the next eight days.
Nice job!!! Looks great! I like the idea of tongs to lift and rotate... I see your on the third row on the left side of the woodshed already! Those rows are huge by the way, very tall and wide. How much is left of your big log pile now? Building a third bay already? Need more exercise? We're going to need a lot of pics!
Thanks Fan. You just had a good workout too with rolling heavy rounds around… man it destroys my ole back twisting those around. First time today using the tongs and boom to just turn em 180 degrees. What a difference. I just have to not be in a hurry.
You have quite the system going on there! I think you got a ton of splitting and stacking done. Wheres Giz? Did you wear him out?
She doesn't like the noise of the splitter so she stayed inside snoozing' I should have 6 cords total in the 2 bays when I get the right bay filled with what I'm splitting now. The logs I hauled this spring are maybe 3 cords. Hard to tell until it's all CSS isn't it?
Your system seems to be working well for you. Nice pictures With all the equipment running, probably pretty noisy , get him/her a set of ear muffs.
She'd never keep em on her head… and she is really scary around the saws. She tries to attack it… … I've gotten so when I'm making noise, I let her snooze.
I'm liking your vertical arrangement you have there! Being still relatively young (and dumb) and hardheaded, I generally wrestle up the big chucks on the horizontal set-up, but this looks like a good way to go. I especially dig the lift you have - looks like your back is thanking you with each log you process. How is your lift system set up? (If I would have paid attention, I would have seen the small crane you have there). Electronic winch I assume makes for some easy work.
Very efficient set up. Looks like the lift takes a lot of work out of a day of splitting. Thanks for sharing the pictures with us.
Very nice Stinney!! Put's my operation to shame. Managed to tackle a nasty white birch, a couple of small maples and another cherry today. "Friend" got tired of me splitting all my wood with a maul, so dropped off his splitter - I'll confess, does make things a whole lot easier.
