The Hardy OWB may have had its last fire til next fall. We'll see. If we get a cold snap it will probably get a couple small fires using up some split rail fence rails, but I think we're done, at least for a few days. Honestly, heating our basement keeps the house too warm at night. We've been keeping a window cracked in our bedroom the past few nights. The 2017-2018 season was a short season. We had warm temps up to around Thanksgiving and shut it down mid March. This season we fired it up mid Oct and it's been going non stop since. It's too much of a hassle for the domestic hot water in the summer, so it sits idle til the next season.
I'm thinking another 3 weeks for sure before I pull the fires on my OWB, maybe more! I'm getting by with only 2-3 chunks of wood a day right now. Mind you, these are not splits though.
I turned mine off last night. I will probably just do a quick run in the afternoon or evening to make DHW for showers and dishes that night.
I think we'll be having several fires this week as our warm weather has past. It's going to turn wet too.
Yeah, seeing that cool down coming this way too. I've got a ton of small silver maple. Looks like I'll get to use some of that. ETA: I just looked at the forecast in the upper midwest. Burrrrrr...not supposed to be that bad here, but looks like there will be a few damp, cool days. Cool and sunny I can take. Damp and cool, not so much.
Some snow in the forecast tonight but not a big amount. Just enough to remind us that winter is still hanging around.
Well, that was short lived. Hardy is back up to operating temp. House was not warming up today without the sunshine that was in the forecast earlier this week. I don't like gray, cloudy cool days with a cool house. It's starting warm up nicely in here now.
I’ll more than likely let my Hardy H4 eat for the rest of the month. I’ve been a slave to it religiously this winter, seeing the end of the burning season right around the corner is a welcomed sight.
I thought about shutting mine down, but I am loading brush pile stuff out of the pasture. Only loading once a day now. It gets tiresome by April.
