So I bought my first splitter a couple of months ago. It's a 25 ton and it works great.

My question is is there any problems with running it at half throttle when splitting? It doesn't seem to need to be wide open throttle even when splitting oak or eucalyptus unless i get into some knotty wood. Didn't know if the hydraulics needed the flow to keep cool it something like that. Thanks in advance...

No problem at all. I seldom run mine over half.

That's about where i run mine, but, if there is some big knotty stuff, i turn it up. I've got the time and i'm not in a hurry, so by slowing things down a little bit, it makes it more fun, and feel less like work, lol.

Good deal. I hate to beat up tools if I don't need to.

The only issue would be not enough lubrication, since these are splash lubed engines.
I wonder myself though how much lubrication they are getting even at idle.
Otherwise why would they give throttle control if it starves of oil lubrication at anything less than full throttle?

I never run mine over 1/2 throttle...... splits just fine where I have it, so I figure why push it.

It does not harm to run the engine at half throttle. That's about what we do or maybe 2/3 throttle. Use less gas, easier on the engine and still splits fast enough for me. No problem with the hydraulics either.

Yup, I run at half throttle way more than full throttle...no problems yet! It seems to use less fuel that way too...gets kinda thirsty at full throttle...and noisy!

1/2 to 3/4 for me too. Never once needed to bump it to wide open

I bring it up to full and back it off a bit. I enjoy splitting but don’t want to spend all day watching the ram run at half speed.

Wow. Learned a new thing. Always bugged me running at full throttle, but I figured it was supposed to, to maximize splitting power.

Ran mine today at full throttle for awhile. Some really big, hard oak rounds with crotches and knots

Right, I have a 35 year old splitter with original engine. I run full throttle because it has a slow cycle time. It sips a gallon about every two hours. That's not going to break the bank.

I run at 1/2 to 3/4 throttle and burn about a quart per hour and the hydraulics run cool .
