Pretty sure the 'ol Frigidaire "Gallery" bit the dust. Trying to make popcorn last night then BZZZBRNNZZZ- and I shut it off. WTH? Hit start and the upper lid above the cooking area lit up like it was burning 7018.
So yeah, no more of that.
So I'm shopping tonight. Any recommendations for a decent new microwave? Thanks, JB

I also may be looking for the same type of monster. It would need a light (onto stove/range surface) and a fan. I'll be keeping a close eye on what you get!

If you are not in a hurry, a worker at Home Depot told me they always have a huge sale right around the 4th of July ish that would be worth waiting for

HD has a sale right now. I could replace the Gallery for $278, saves me $101 right now. I'm leaning that way but more checking to do.

We may be heading out that way again this summer.

I hope to visit my relatives in Denver as I haven't stopped by during the last 6 years I've been that way. :picard:

If you are a veteran and service connected, there is another discount Home Depot will give you.

Probably just need to replace the mica board, and give 'er a good cleaning...mica board is a couple bucks, easy to replace...available on ebay/amazon...you'll be done with the whole deal in 5 minutes...and back to
Often times food splashes on the board and then over time it gets cooked to a crisp, turns to carbon...then sparky sparky! Any burnt food splatters need cleaned off.

Ok, so looking on the inside of the microwave, would the "mica board" be at the top?

Cool, let me know when you're in the area, I'll find some cheap gas locations. ;)

Yup, and Wendy's hamburgers in the foil wrap, they're a no-no also. I am guilty of that.

GTG lunch in Walden or Cheyenne if you go by either of those!!

The last microwave I bought is also an oven. Used the convection oven for frozen pizzas, lasagne, and other for a couple years til we remodeled and it worked great if that's an option for over the range microwaves.

I'm not familiar with your model...but most that I've seen, the board is on the right...it covers the area where the maganatron is...here is a pic of mine...that silver board on the right...it's just held in place by a couple plastic pins. You'll notice the black spot at the top of the cover where a previous board did the arky sparky thing...left a stain.

Thanks! Last time was nice that you told me about Silverthorne; it worked out great and yes, I did use that info. Saved close to .20 gal I think!

I read the title and saw shooting instead of shopping. Disappointed this isn't a thread about shooting microwaves at long distances out west (over the range).

If you do decide to shoot the old microwave, please post pics and/or video.

That looks like the "cardboard" looking panel at the top of the MW, inside. I couldn't find a direct replacement, but cutting one out of blank seems Ok. I have it unplugged but I won't mess with it for a few days, stored discharge and all that. If it works, I'll set it aside for the downstairs when I get that finished. Thanks for the direction on that "mica" board. JB

If it happens, Tannerite will be involved, count on that.

Yeah that's the easiest/cheapest thing to do...just order some mica board material...trace the old one, cut the new one out.

I have a new Frigidaire Gallery on order, should be here end of next week. Pretty crazy/frustrating trying to order this thing.
I have a bunch of gift cards from various sources, for a few vendors. Hmmm.... let's see what we can do with these. And then..
Menards won't ship to my address. Ok, fine.
H/D will only ship to my address, no in-store pick up. $60.00 extra, thank you very much. ...no.
Best Buy- 1/2 the shipping cost of H/D, should show up mid May. And so it goes..
I still have those gift cards un-redeemed. Frikken Amazon had the same (close) sale price, local tax and free S/H. Should be here next Thurs. Crazy stuff, just SMH at times like this.

Just got home and the story my wife had made me think of this thread. Didn't know how but she had a fire in the microwave :hair:! Listened to the tale and think i figured it out. Froze leftovers in a 1qt yogurt tub and just wanted to thaw it enough to get them out, I guess a simple run under warm water would have been too much. Took lid off put paper towel over it and hit go. Heard something and looked, flames inside, tub melting, and now that everything is ok I can say I think it would have been rather comical to watch the whole try to put it out escapade she described.  I think she didn't see a little bit of the foil seal left on the tub, it sparked, set paper towel on fire, it ignited the plastic tub, burning plastic melted contents of tub, juices ran all over, burning tub thrown into sink, splashed water from sink into microwave to put out paper towel...:jaw:  :picard::zip: She cleaned up the mess and caught it fast enough no damage happened in microwave, she wasn't hurt, but most importantly I got a good laugh out of it and it didn't cost me anything !

I remember stories of guys on guard duty up in Alaska that would stand in front of the radar antennas briefly to warm themselves up!

I laughed and said when you felt your fillings begin to tingle, you knew you had enough, no?
