The deer around here are corn fed for about 3 months out of the year. 95% of the meat I eat is raised by me, caught/killed in the wild by me, or raised by family that I know and trust. The other 5% comes from when I eat out. Commercially raised meat is getting to be scary stuff.
Would my doughnuts be considered a processed food? Seriously though, I do think the food supply is getting scary. I'm not into organic things, but I heavily believe in common sense. Something I'm beginning to practice is something I just heard from a dr. Replace some of your food with healthier items. This works better for you in two ways. First, it's healthier (duh) and the other is it keeps you from eating the less nutritious item. Just some food for thought.
I love fresh baked goods. Breads, donuts, cake, etc. One good thing I like about this Primal Blue Print thing is you can do it 80% of the time. I try to do it more, but lately has been tough. But if you are eating well 80% of the time and are careful you can still enjoy some of the other goodies you like. For me. I love Pizza. That is a serious "vice" for me. I eat it instead of the other baked goods I like. I hardly eat bread, donuts, or cake anymore.
They have pretty good donuts at the Price Chopper bakery here. Recently they put in a Tim Hortons. And soon they are adding a Dunkin Donuts. It's going to be tough.
I was spoiled "years" ago when we had a local mom and pop bakery that made "FRESH" doughnuts... They closed shop about 25 years ago when the old man passed. I can't get a good doughnut around here any more, there all imported from out of town and usually a day old. The ones in the grocery store are ready to collect social security by the time you get them, and we do have a "off the wall" doughnut chain here but the doughnuts come from Phila, (100) miles away. Nothing wrong at all with Phila doughnuts but there not fresh by the time they get here.
Oh. That stinks. The Price Chopper bakery here bakes them every morning. You can walk in and buy them early and pick the ones you like while they are still warm. I have to stay away in the morning!
