Lucy came to us this past weekend from a house with 4 young kids and not a lot of room to run. She is younger than we were intending, probably 10 mo. We’ve been dogless the past 4 years, and we will have our hands full.

Bringing the food in at night is not the solution. Poor guy got messed up pretty bad last night, bites and gashes all over his back legs and that front one is just raw meat. Looks like he got tackled in the mud. Maybe I should get him put down or get him in the barn cat program (basically a euthanasia sentence) instead of living like this? Idk, the other cat in the pic appears to be his sister, they tag team eachother on eating and groom eachother, don't want to leave the calico out here by herself. Idk. They are not young, I'm told they've been out here since before I moved here late 2013 (other neighbor that moved was feeding them).

Good luck wildwest! Maybe clean em up, find the culprit and handle accordingly?

Wildwest, plain and simple, they got NO quality of life living like they are. You can't save them all.

    Thank You for the replies!

    Thinking outloud:

Negatory on the trap, they both left when we put the trap out  . I really wanted to get him to a vet tomorrow for his injuries, that front arm has to hurt like bisch!, then off to the barn program or WWW's shop.

WWW offered to take him as a shop cat if we can ever trap him = vet bill and the shop is in between train tracks and "old downtown" with traffic, other strays, and of course racoons by the river on the other side of the train tracks.

Barn Cat program = drop him off and done, it would be up to their discretion to get him fixed up & barn program or put him down.

Leave him out here= more fights/injuries. I don't appreciate taking his fate in my hands but totally agree with you rottiman .

Well Seasoned , the raccoon needs to go regardless of what I do with that stray(s), might as well set the trap on the east side of the house and see if we can get the coon, he opens our dumpster and it's embarrassing when our trash gets blown down the road :emb: Hope skunks don't like marshmallows :hair:

    So a raccoon did this?

I would put an audible sensor out there, bump in the night, .22 should take care of it.

Get the trap a foot or two off the ground. Skunks don't climb. coons do.

I could be wrong but I have not seen damage like that with other stray cats out here, nothing beyond scratches and tufts of fur- but my only stray cat experience beyond working at the pound where we got them better or put them down is here the last few years here.

If we trap it, WWW will either give a dirt bath or relocate it. Long story. Hopefully it goes for the marshmallows and it will be gone either way. HOPE it fits in the trap, it's really BIG.

Thanks rottiman, if we trap a skunk good riddance!

Anyone think if I soak and bleach the trap in the tub to get rid of the smell from baby coons we trapped last summer and whatever if anything gets trapped tonight in hopes the injured cat is not as adverse to it and I can get that guy to a vet or into the barn program?
