ash log.jpg I was on a roll cutting firewood until a very snowy February hit east central Wisconsin. The snow has receded enough to allow me to get back into the woods with my tractor. The last few mornings it has been cold enough that I can cut, split, haul & stack a lot of wood - at least for the first few hours of the morning. After about 9:30 am the sun and warmth begin to make conditions too muddy/slushy to continue work with the tractor. I do love to be in the woods at this time of year - lots of sandhill cranes and Canada geese flying overhead.

It's not just the wood we go for! The entire package is of great value! Fresh air, exercise, a touch of the wild and self sufficiency all come into play. Nice to have those early hours for a little solitude and honest work.

I gave up on the mud for this spring except for some high ground.

The temperature is supposed to be down in the teens again Sunday morning. I've got a fair amount of wood split & stacked in the woods. I hope to get the tractor in there on the freeze to get it moved out to my stacks. Four - five trips should get me cleaned up.

I couldnt agree more metalcuttr, I was cutting today and there was a pond/swamp close by as the frogs were peeping! I sat on a round for a couple minutes and enjoyed it.

I dont like being snowed in during the cold...my cutting season too, but with mother nature you never know.
