Light rain did not start until @1100...hauled splitter and completely filled 8’ bed and loaded an additional 16 rounds of white oak-10 miles from home with direct access...was home, unloaded and stacked by 1530.... One for Sir Backwoods Savage -heavy azz chestnut oak-Lord I dont see how you split this way otherwise though...I get when rounds are this big but the backache is hardly worth it-I like the workout from lifting and moving around....
16 rounds split and added to rail rack-back at it tomorrow-Not taking splitter, just truck and trailer...
I have found that kept in rounds or split on site, the yield is about the same...8’ bed hauls just shy half a cord...tomorrow I will not split on site but stack the rounds in the bed and haul what I think the single axle trailer can withstand-my goal currently is haul a cord each trip...this logging job is projected to be @2 yrs....
Man, what a great score. Yer gonna' need more rails. 10 or 12' trailer? I've filled my 10' with Red Oak splits to slightly over the rails many times, but not gone on the road with it like that. It's 1/3 cord every time + or - a bit.
Hey papadave , I have more rails, you can see them on the bank above the current rack but no concrete casing-A goal this spring is to set up another rail rack using railroad tie blocks...my single axle trailer is 12’, I think rated for 3500 lbs but I could be wrong-HD dump trailer is on the wish list, this trailer is more for hauling ATV during hunting season but I’ll work it like a borrowed mule until then-Headed out, have a great day all!
Ok, I see 'em now. I still think yer gonna' have more firewood than rails to stack it on, unless you plan to stop once those other rails are full......but that would be silly, wouldn't it? Hoard on!

All mine brenndatomu , you’d be amazed how few people burn around here, especially full time...Some people get free gas, some dont like it or like to work it, others IDK, maybe lazy? No neighbors in sight burn and I can only think of a few within miles-They like how mine smells when its burning though I dont have any aspirations of selling any wood, yet....
