Scored a 13 NC off Craig's List. I have been renovating the rental cottage on my farm and decided it was time to replace the old stove. A previous tenant had broken the door glass to the stove and it never seemed to run right again. Anyway, the cottage is 900 sq. ft. so the 13 NC should work. I put new floor protection in since the set backs are much tighter for the new stove. The stove cost $300 and is in good shape. I have burnt 2 fires in it and it burns fine. The former owners had no clue and were obviously burning wet wood as can be seen by the black glass.
Nice. I really like my NC-13. And, my NC-30. Aw heck, I even like my Drolet El Dorado too! And yeah, while I'm at it, I really really like my OWB!
Sounds familiar; I have an Osburn 2400 insert in my house. The 13 NC. Some Canadian early EPA stove company no longer in business in my shop. And a baby bear in the corn crib waiting for my wife's fiber shop to be built.
Sweet score. I really don't understand why there is so much confusion and frustration on why wet wood doesn't burn well.
In this case seeing the house it was in would have explained it. The stove was literally the nicest thing in it by a long shot. So bad it kept me from haggling;I just paid the asking price.
lol, reminds me of a kid who used to work for us who asked me if my wood stove makes me smell like a bonfire, because his always did when he was growing up. I told him that's probably not a good sign.
Then they look at you stupidly when you inform them their wood is wet. OP; the 13NC is a great heater. With dry wood and a full firebox, it likes to cruise in the 650*F range. More than enough stove for 900sq.ft.
