I should have posted this last week but got busy. Last Wednesday when it was really windy here I got home and went out to feed the dog. I then realized that there was a tree that had blown over in his pen and fell onto his fence. It also went over on to the neighbor's property.

I don't know how long it had been down but our dog is so smart he didn't realize he could get out. It wasn't until I walked over to the tree to look at it that he finally saw he could walk out of his pen.

It was a sassafras. I love splitting that stuff. I split by hand so sassafras makes me feel very confident about my splitting skills. You can almost look at it hard enough and it will split.

Thank you as i sit on the heating pad! Keep in mind im picky about what type of wood ill take. If its hard to split by hand, i wont take it. If i have to sledge and wedge, forget it, although he last score did require some of it. If its knotty/crotchety ill take the saw to it and make noodles!

i certainly did. Yesterday morning. There was half a P/U full of noodle logs i brought home to cut up. Just have to figure out where it gets stacked. I cut some in the guys yard but it already is a mess with twigs, sawdust and wood crumbs. Luckily he is raking it up.
Do you ever noodle the cedar?

Oh yes, those cedar noodles are like gold. And the larger rounds are pretty tough, so I have a good excuse.

I love to cut sassafras just so I can enjoy the scent. That one will be a quick cutting up job. Enjoy it.

btw, did you know you can insert those pictures right into the post? It surely makes it easier for the guys to see them as just leaving them attached makes one have to wait for the computer to download. I'm betting the guys with smart phones never see pictures that are just attached but if inserted into the post they come up right away.

I burned an amount of sassafras earlier this heating season. I hand split it a couple yrs ago. Good shoulder wood. Seasoned splits are very light for their size.

Love the stuff! Cut up some a few weeks ago and I’m going back soon to get the other one I left. It’s a great all around one for me down here.
