My 13 year old and I split by hand for a couple of hours last night. He loves the old Fiskars super splitter (predecessor of the x27) and I had the isocore maul. This evening I was alone and got in almost an hour with the splitter, after work. As I was calling it quits, I looked up the creek bottom towards the pond dam. I could see 3 of the 5 small stacks we had made. It was just nice as the sunset was approaching.
buZZsaw BRAD , I will take it when he is willing. My once eager helper is definately a teenager now. He does like swinging that splitting axe, when he is of a mind to do so. It can't be Daddy's idea. If you know what I mean. Horkn , thanks!
Take what time he will give you these times go by fast. Nice work on the stacks. Have to ask what do you do split and stack where you drop them?
gboutdoors thanks. Most of the tops or very large rounds get stacked until I can get back with the splitter. Hand splitting doesn't happen as often as I should. Then I split where they are if it is on our property. Those stacks get moved to the woodshed late winter / early spring, when it is their turn, for the following winter. There are lots of these stacks along the woods trails and driveway. The only consolidation for me happens on the move to the shed. The past couple of years have been a little different for me. I used to process the whole tree and do that. Now I finally have my own tractor. And we save logs for the firewood processor. So, we rented a firewood processor. **this year's processor carnage!** Stacks I am making now will be for winter '21-'22.
That really is nice when you are working but can still see some of your past work. Pleasant memories.
