Congratulations. The only suffering is, "Why couldn't this happen when I was younger? " I use to say, " You should be retired for the first 30 years of work and then have to go to work." Now I have a different opinion.
Always good to hear about somebody else getting close and finding a place to settle down. I’m just glad to have the woodlot. I can putter around all day and it doesn’t feel like work. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Yes, find something you love. My wood keeps me active and hope when the time comes when the time comes that I can't do it doesn't come soon. Cooking is also a passion and doesn't require the physical effort. Thinking about volunteering at the local animal shelter, but am real concerned about commitment. Before I retired, my job ran ragged with a lot of unplanned hours. I like the freedom to come and go as I please. Really don't want to get into that rat race again.
Congrats! I'm coming up on full time retirement in 6 weeks. Part time retirement for the past 2 years. The work thing is really getting in the way...…. …..now, I'm counting the days.
Full retirement coming soon to me too!! Only 242 months! Woot Woot!! Congrats for those of you enjoying much deserved retirement now and upcoming. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Prices crazy here too, we've been actively looking for several months now, the price 1930/1950's home on 1/10 acre is ridiculous, not to mention the electric/poor insulation/siding/windows/heating all original.
Wow, reading about all the guys almost ready for retirement and some already there, I hope they let us know what it is like. I'm almost ready for retirement myself. What do I have to look forward to?
Congrats Reloader ! I'm getting there, I can't leave yet , I need insurance! I guess I can use the VA..... Good luck with your search wildwest! I know the Mt Gilead area well but don't know if I want to live in the mid-west after living out west for almost 50 years. I do know that I want to move when I retire so I'll keep looking.
Bert, the thing that might bother you the most is the humidity along with the summer heat. It can be downright awful. When my wife and I wintered in AZ for 5 years the thing we noticed most and hated when we came back was the humidity. We would start to notice it once into CO then as we came east it just kept getting worse and worse. One of the worst times was in Omaha. We stayed for a couple days and could hardly stand it. Then a big storm moved through. It helped but the storm was a bit scary. We were very happy to leave there. Just remember that anytime you come to where there is lots of trees and greenery, the humidity will be worse.
Dennis: Do not come here. There is "greenery", lots of trees, some humidity year-round. Many, many elders ( the oldest state BTW ). None of the local establishments have "senior specials". Under no circumstances should you go to god's graveyard in Florida. Real humidity, Palmetto bugs, blind drivers, real gated communities, flat, wet, snakes, alligators. Good luck.
We've been to most states in the New England area and do not find it much different from where we live and of course, we are both blessed and cursed with the Great Lakes. Wife and I started toward Florida one time and I don't think we got any further than North Carolina before we both decided it was foolish to go any further as it was absolutely terrible...
I was stationed in Charleston, S.C. for two years till the Frigate I was on moved home ports. The heat and humidity was "unbearable" for me during the late spring and summer, and I was a skinny kid then. So now 34 years later and "much fatter" , I can't imagine now what that heat would do to me. Then,...... The bugs, my God the bugs..... I don't miss "fire ants"!!!
