If you have a 2002 Tundra and newer and you have a leak up front, you might check this out. Under the front cowling, there are some small white in color plastic inserts that have a very flimsy type of gasket under them. On my 2002 i had water leaking from around the glove box and onto the floor. So, you have to pull both windshield wiper arms off, 8 torque screws out of the cowling, remove the cowling, and under it, are these small white plastic, ''things''. The gaskets tend to fail, and it allows water to leak into the inside of the cab up front. Clean the area surrounding the little white plastic covers, then seal them with some really good silicone sealer, or in my case i used good old SHOE GOO. Let it set up, i put 2 applications of SHOE GOO on it, then let it set up really good before reinstalling my cowling, and windshield wiper arms. Give it some time, make sure its set up and dry before you ''test'' it. About 3-4 hrs later i dumped 3 gallons of water in the area, then i even washed the pickup and really hosed down the area that mine had leaked from in the beginning. NO MORE LEAK, first time in almost 2 yrs. Its very easy to remove the cowling, just take your time, put a good coating of the silicone, or ''goo'' on them and put every thing back in its place. MARK the wipers so you can put them back in the correct position i used a piece of tape to show where the wiper rubber blade was on the windshield in the stop position. Do not over tighten the screws in the cowling!! They go into the the plastic things , if you do, put some silicone, or shoe goo in the holes and that will keep it tightened.
Very possible, some of the guys on the tundra forum even said it cost them a blower motor by rusting up the shaft, or shorting it out, think i got lucky, it ran on the outside part of the inner glove box, never got a thing wet inside. That's why it really threw me as to finding where it was coming from until i went to the internet.
Thanks, this is is great information. My 2002 never leaked around the glove box at all over the 16 years I owned it. The only thing on that truck that was not original aside from one timing belt, tires and battery, was the radiator that I replaced after 15 years. Even the headlights were original. I bought a 2006 last year and noticed a small pool of water on the weathertec floor mat last summer a few times after some heavy rains, but haven't seen anything since then. I will perform the required fix this summer after the tell tale puddle reminds me.
I had a deal on the passenger side of my 2005 Tundra where the air intake plenum (under the screen where the wipers are) would become plugged with Fir needles. Then I would get a leak from above the glove box. The plenum, which under normal conditions, allows air to enter the cabin but not water, drains down by the hinges of the passenger door. There is a bit of plastic flashing that covers a void by the lower hinge. If the area behind it is packed with fir needles, the plenum won't drain and you need to clean out the debris. I do the drivers side also just cause I don't want all that damp junk packed in there. Since I have been keeping these areas clean I have never had a leak. I have never had the vent cowling off to see what was inside. If it ever happens again, I will investigate under the wipers and maybe try your fix! Thanks for the info!
