I’ve passed through your parts a few times. I thought the State Tree was the telephone pole. I’ll have to pay more attention.
The entire Platte River valley and north is in terrible shape. Genoa has been evacuated, and they may not have a town left to come back to. Columbus and Norfolk are pretty much shut down, inaccessible, and under water. It's really bad.
Seeing as everybody likes pictures, I thought I'd add a few more. There's an aerial view of the Platte River at Columbus, Nebraska. The green roofed building in the picture is the same as in the second picture. The third picture of the sign is from two days ago. The fourth picture is that same sign from this morning. There's also a link to a video of that intersection just south of the river, from somewhere near that sign.
Hopefully no one minds the updates. These are pictures from a friend that lives in Genoa, NE. The first is the road to town, about a mile from town. One of the white specks in the second picture is the roof of their house. Somehow, the loss of my firewood logs seems pretty trivial now.
Can't like that. A town I used live in had a 100 yr flood 2 yrs after i left. Can't really appreciate the damage until you knew the before.
