Currently at 2.5 cord. Forecasting for 3 to 3.25 cord for the year. An to think my first year about six years ago was 7 cords unseasoned. Sure does make hoarding a lot easier to get to three year plan.
I'm at 4.5 cords.. This year has been colder than recent. The news says it's average BUT then comment lake Champlain completely froze over March 8th. Last time February of 2015..
Im about 7 cords in my shop so far this winter. Have about a cord left. We are having some better temps this week and we are sure glad of that.
Up to about 3 cords. I've also used 61 more therms of natural gas this winter than last with an increase on the electric bill as well from the blower fan running more. Definitely colder this winter.
Used to use 7-8 cord per burning season( Oct 1 to April 1), running 24/7 with 1 stove and occasionally the 2nd stove when it got REALLY cold, in a 1500 sq. ft. bungalow style house built in 1974. In the summer of 2015, we replaced all the original windows and doors with high efficient triple-pane gas filled. I decided to start tracking my consumption closer the following fall. My shed holds 20 rows, each 9' x 7.5' x 1.37' which tallies out to 87.75 cubic feet per row, so tracking consumption is simple. During the next three seasons (16/17, 17/18, and currently 18/19) I kept track of the date each row was started. Note the dates from year to year. For these past three years I have used anywhere from 6 to 7 rows which translates to between 4.25 and 4.80 cord. So the window/door investment has paid off handsomely with a annual cord reduction. I was amazed to see how consistent the usage was by date: Row# 2016/17 2017/18 2018/19 1 Oct 8th Oct 5th Oct 15th 2 Nov 25th Nov 14th Nov 12th 3 Dec 19th Dec 11th Dec 8th 4 Jan 9th Dec 29th Jan 1st 5 Feb 6th Jan 17th Jan 21st 6 Mar 9th Feb 12th Feb 8th 7 Not Used mar 16th Mar 8th I do not expect to exceed 7 rows again this year by the end of the season (Apr 1st), even though we had a really cold snowy winter. 2 feet of snow on the roof DOES make a big insulation difference for sure.
1.5. This year..Its been warmer w 4 or 5 good cold snaps hear n there. My stove is really efficient.. I load about 2 wheelbarrows in 24 hrs when running full.. If you've ever noticed. You use a lot of wood for either 2 reasons or both. It's really fricking cold or your wood is not seasoned. Or both. I burned 6 yr old oak and it burn long n hot.. and didn't need as much .
Scotty Overkill , why are you staring at me? Alright I'll answer the question, about 4 cords, and another month to go. Those eyes, it's like your addicted to wood, there's no place for that here.....we're normal. Just ask our wives.
Yes thats in my house. I think it’s probably closer to 5 cord. I’m heating with an old steel stove similar to a fisher in an in insulated basement. The snow is melted at least a foot from the foundation. Lol.
"Spoon" , eyeinstine and PA Dutch welcome to the club from far over yonder. A few of the things we appreciate around here:
My first year, being 17-18 heating a 1700 SQ foot house with a Quadrafire 4300, I burned over 6 cords. It wasn't all completely seasoned. This past season I am only breaking into cord number 4. I was conserving a bit more this year. Last year I was loading the stove 4 times a day, this year, maybe 3 times a day with half the wood.
