I have a dumb question. I pull my splitter (Wood General, 26 Ton Brave) almost exclusively with my Honda Pioneer on my property. Especially this time of year there is lots of mud. I was pushing it into the shop Saturday and noticed a bearing squeaking. Is there a way to put more of an ATV style tire on them to get a little more float. I have some Carlisle All Trail tires that would probably due the trick. Any ideas? Thanks for the help.

What size tires does it have? You may be able to put a slightly wider trailer tire on it. Another option would be a front wheel and tire off a lawn mower. ATV wheels would have the wrong back spacing and I don't think they could easily be adapted.

Welcome to FHC @spoon !!!!!! Looking forward to hearing about your setup. I would think you would want to ensure the tires are at least the same diameter as the originals. That of course assumes that you intend to use the wood general that both vertically and horizontally. Got any pics?

    This...

    Probably the easiest solution.

Measure the wheel bolt pattern, and how much room you have from the spindle face back to the side of the trailer...then you would probably need to order aftermarket steel wheels with a negative offset...like 2+5...and depending on the bolt pattern of the trailer spindles, you may need to drill the wheels to fit...so yeah, its probably doable...

    That’s a great thought!

If I had thought of it and actually wanted to do it, I think I would approach it like brenndatomu suggested. Armed with the as-built dimensions, I would pull a wheel off and bring it a tire shop and explain what you wanted to do. A good tire person may provide a solution.

Now I think I might want to do that, so keep us posted on how you make out.

I suppose it depends on if your splitter has real hubs that have wheels that bolt on, or if they are just bushings and simply slide on.

Pics would help greatly, 4 or 5 lug, golf car tires would have a stiffer sidewall, golf car rims are 4 on 4.

Put some duals on it, keep the height, twice the contact !

If it's this one, then it isn't a "lugged" wheel.

98193533-C965-451B-9742-FEB311ADE9FB.jpeg It is very similar. I thought may be able to convert it to hubs but the more I look at it the more I like the lawn tractor tires and wheels. You would have to stay real close to the same height or you would screw up the vertical splitting.
