That's some variety of wood you have there Kris_S ! And yes you do have a lot of Honey locust there. Nice stacks you are starting in a big open field that should season very well. I suppose that car full of Ash is what has you on this thread, but you may be over qualified to be slumming over here with us lowly car hoarders. Just promise you wont love us then leave us ;)

Great day to be outside organizing and gloating over your wood! You do have a good variety, keeps hoarding interesting. And I really envy the space you have to spread out. The bar is pretty low here on the car hoarding thread, but you surpass it by leaps and bounds!

:salute: It was supposed to be a follow up post to show Midwinter I listened and got the maple :axe:. The ash doesn't really count as it is on the property, but making one post was easier. I know I'm fortunate to not need to hunt for wood, but it is fun. Reading everyone's posts in here just makes me want to do it more, to my wife's chagrin.:D

Spent half my Saturday splitting some sugar maple at a house one town over. Rounds were way too big for me to put in my car by myself so I split on site. A bit of a pain to stack twice but well worth it for some good wood. Two car loads split and stacked came out to about half a cord I estimated.

NBNH, a lot of us getting sugar maple lately. That's quite the chopping block in the driveway, and big sections to the side, that tree must have been a monster. Loaded SUV picks, I love it! You need a tarp, though. My SUV can fit a quarter cord of splits, too. Some fine car hoarding!

Great Photos! Did you eventually split all the rounds in the first photo? That would be easily a half cord if not a cord. Loos like Silver Maple, and I love your handy chopping block!

Thanks midwinter! That's actually the stump in the back yard, tree was quite the big one. I did have a small tarp down on the back of the seats to prevent water damage to the upholstery, but it doesn't reach all the way to the end of the trunk. The weather tech mats hold a lot of the crap in but I do need to put a larger one down for even more protection.

I split about half that stuff in the back before I had to call it a day to go home and stack it. Best part is very little knots and the tree removal company pretty much cut all the rounds to 18" or smaller!

Yeah, a half cord split and moved to another location for stacking is no small feat. Must've been something in the air Saturday because everything split real easy for me too. I had 4 varieties I was splitting including Gnarly apple wood crotches that I was procrastinating on for months fearing the worst.

Some ugly maple from the dump. But it was beautiful to me, first scrounge in a week! And, I ran the electric saw at the dump. IMG_20190309_58317.jpg
I split some in the driveway, but I still ended the day with a bigger pile than I started with.

Yep, what most people will leave there because they cant lift or figure out how to fit into their cars, molly will be quietly and prolifically working on her 3 year plan. Just wish my dump produced like that. Sometimes I think my dump needs to be taken to the dump

Was going to get out and scrounge today, but still too much defrosting snow and subsequent soft muck everywhere. Anyway,I had to get the house ready for our big St, Patty's day feast next weekend for whats turning out to be 30 to 40 guests. :picard:
I spied a few nice recently fallen trees from the heavy snow, but I'll wait for the nice weather to come before I investigate further. These are side of the road scrounges and I only saw them driving by quickly, but wow! Just need to work out my game plan for this heavy car traffic area. At least one tree I can tell was a big cherry that must've fallen onto the road and the power company cut it away back to the trunk. A future endeavor I'll be sure to document, but always glad to see a fellow scrounger getting it done Molly!

Sounds like a blast! It's Sunday this year, that helps.
Early Sunday mornings are my favorite times. Also, maybe wear a yellow vest and hardhat? Although the shopping cart might blow your cover.

Not smart, 90% of car hoarding is just showing up.... when the dump is open.

Yeah, my dump is the dumps in comparison too.

I've been way too busy with work to focus on hoarding the past 3 months. But now its March, and all I've processed this winter is oak. I need to find some ash or maple asap. I've started taking rides looking for opportunities, but theres nothing. Thinking I'm gonna have to pay for some logs soon. Need 1-1.5 cords for next winter.

Craigslist has been a barren wasteland, that's for sure. But spring cleanup season is close, bound to be sleepers out there. I guess if I were in your shoes, I'd pay $120/cord for logs delivered to my yard. Going to try the guy in Derry?

I was actually thinking of calling the tree service in Hudson that was selling small grapple loads in the pink truck. See of he had ash
