Yes, the goblet is spatled maple.

Here's some useful stuff I turned. A couple file handles and a mallet (of ash).

Very nice. I pick the figured splits out of the wood stacks for future projects. This is spalted tiger maple that may be just a little too far gone for use. I'll let it dry out and see if there is any strength left to it.

Pulling this stuff out of spalted wood is just amazing.

    Wow.....
Never had my hands on any hickory.
Is that spalted or just way the grain is?

What kind of finish are you putting on those bowls?

    just the grain
Just the grain . I guess i was just going into the heart wood a little. i was just trying to keep all the good wood i could and just get rid of the bark. heres what i started with. 20190101_141750.jpg

once i got the bark off i just cleaned up what was left
    20190101_154146.jpg

then when i hollowed the inside i started cutting through the sapwood

    That looks interesting.
Is that a water proof finish?
    How durable is it compared
    to a polyurethane or something
    like minwax oils?
..also, I'm guessing this is not for food contact.

One of the members is really into turning bowls so he brought bowl blanks and three of us worked on this live edge maple bowl.
