Poly tub wheelbarrow for wood?

My old wheelbarrow finally died today. I see some of the new ones have a plastic/polymer tub. Anyone know how one of these holds up to a life of firewood being tossed in it? I'm not gentle about throwing splits in.

 

I had a Jackson brand well used and abused held up to everything I threw at it, literally. Get two wheels on the front makes life easy, you can grab one handle and move it.

 

I'm really thinking about the 2-wheel models. I've got some uneven ground and a trail with narrow spots to deal with. Yours was a polymer tub?

I have the 2 wheel model. Been around here for at least 10 years. No worse for the wear.

 

I cracked mine chucking firewood into it.. I think they get more brittle over the years.

I like them though, just get a thicker one. Maybe they have a warranty?

 

My Scenic Road Wheelbarrow arrived on Saturday. It's built like a tank and the 8cu size is huge. I'm looking forward to putting it to work. This is my first poly AND dual wheel wheelbarrow. I'm replacing a true temper metal wheelbarrow that I've had for about 14yrs.

I dont have good luck with plastic as im ROUGH on them as well. Dropping large rounds in them has cracked them, I have a habit or grossly overloading them with splits as well. Of course ill cart rocks, gravel, mix concrete in it as well. The only thing i like is the rain drains out when it cracks and it doesnt rust either plus light weight. I dont have luck with tires staying inflated either. Ill buy used at tag sales/flea markets and use them til they die. If i had a choice to buy new id go with a heavy duty double wheeled plastic. If using it just for splits i think youre okay.

 

We have one about 20+ years old always been outside. Yeah it's got a couple of cracks around the carriage bolts but I have yet to have the firewood leak out.

 

We have one that’s about 30 years old. Did ten years in our masonry business and it’s been my moms favorite toy for the last 20. Used almost daily, Mom still gets down and dirty.
It’s had three tires on it but no cracks. Also not needlessly abused. Purchased from the mason supply company we dealt with and it wasnt cheap. Probably plastic barrows were new to the market at that time. Has no special bells or whistles but it’s quality and the plastic formula was correct.
Neighbor bought a cheapo homeowner one and it split in two. Moral of the story? Buy a good one.

 

I have the orange tub one from true temper and it great I just put solid tires on it but I did have a tractor supply one that the tub was black and first real cold day threw some wood in it cracked

 

I have a plastic one, held up pretty good for a while, replaced the rubber tire with a never flat tire, and currently have a small piece of 3/4”plywood covering the crack I put in the tub from throwing firewood into it. Lol

 

We have a single wheel and a dual wheel version. If the ground is flat the dual wheel is great. If it’s uneven then the single is better. The dual wheel wants to tilt with the terrain but I can balance out the single.

 

We had an el cheapo poly tub, cracked it once I started using it in cold weather.

Replaced it with a metal one found roadside that needed new wood, never looked back. This thing looks like it's pre 60's by the steel quality and paint adhesion. Heavy as hell, but that's a good thing! New wood and a tube in the tire - rock and roll. I prefer one wheel for sharp turns.

 

I have a dual-wheel one with a heavy tub that I got from Tractor Supply, and the tub is cracked. Probably from throwing splits in when it was frozen. Also have a Gorilla 4-wheel cart also from TSC, same issue. The poly tubs do not hold up well to firewood. I am trying to figure out how to repair both of them, maybe plastic welding, or epoxy. Costs too much to replace every few years.

 

I've only had one plastic tub and the tub cracked. Lived outside propped up against a wall. Now I keep barrows in a shed and they just last longer. Tires, wood, everything.

 

Same thing here! Mine cracked, rusted, tires dry rotted, etc....propped up against the side of the shed. Lasts longer if kept under cover and out of the elements.

I've since replaced it with this and so far been very happy with it. I like how it can dump easily and attach to a ATV or Riding mower. Also has slots to build up the walls higher for bigger load of wood. I aggressively chuck wood in it all the time and so far it's held up! Had it for about 2yrs now!

 

The most durable and best barrow on the market is a Brentwood industries branded one. Just make sure you are sitting down when you look at the price. Hint..dual wheel 10 cube is over $500 .
