Not so sure about being able to ride off road on the dunes. I didn't find anywhere in the U.P. where it was allowed. L.P. is different about that. Is it Silver Lake where you can get on the dunes?
Yes, as far as I know Silver Lake still allows it but I also know they made new regulations recently because of so many showing up to ride and some damage being done along with complaints. There is still plenty of sand around Grand Marias outside the park.
Yup. This is not a heavy snow area. There has never been 100" fall here in one winter. I think 87" is the tops here. Most winters are around 40-45.
Radio this morning said 37" on the ground and 170" YTD. It'll vary widely from locale to locale. This morning, they were at -14 and I had -31! Lucky me, huh?
I LOVE that kinda weather. I'm super jealous and wanna move up there. better yet just send your weather south!!!! I'll gladly take the snow and the cold. anymore i'm sweating 20 hrs a day. but I have to say the things that make me love that weather are simple; an owb, heated floors, years ahead on wood, a warm shop and a snowmobile!!!
Yes, beautiful place with all he mentioned, but afraid he exaggerated . Cut zones minimum 1 hour away, ski slopes 2 hours, sand dunes 3+ hours in light traffic which I hear light traffic does not exist anymore. Not 50/60* in the winter, but without no wind, a 30* day with sun reflecting off the snow it can much warmer That said I'd go back in a heartbeat, my biggest regret is selling our home of 21 years above Ft Collins. Go for it if you can Felter
Do not come here. There are no trees, no snow, a tiny plot of sandunes near LL Bean ; foots ( feet ) only. Maine has enough people .
I drove to Houghton last week Wed. All around the different counties are using front end loaders and those big snow throwers to push the banks back.
Or in northern MI they say we have 2 seasons. Winter and the 4th of July. Or some say 10 months of winter and 2 months of difficult sledding.
