They really pizzed me off about 5 years ago with the $4.75 price and then they go straight over and fill my neighbors tank for $3.50 per gallon.
I told them to come and get their tank. They said ok, we are going to charge you 220$to pump out the remainder of the gas, then charge you 200$ to haul of the tank!! I asked how much a gallon they would pay me back for the gas in the tank and they said nothing! I was fuming. I told their ways are costing them money cause people like me will never spend another dime with them. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Shop around for LP options....they're like the mafia on pricing. LP is a commodity no matter how much you use. Same cost to the supplier whether or not you use < 200 g/year or much more for heating. Stupidly we had been paying the top tier of LP BECAUSE of little use under 200 g/yr ~ $4.89 /g. We told the regional mgr to take out the 100g "pig" , we will be getting another supplier or buying a tank. After some frumping and bureaucratic B.S., he gave us the 'normal' "heating" high use rate in the mid $2. So, make some noise, firm but polite. Be prepared to walk to another supplier. Use here is well under 200g/yr: hot water ( tankless Rinnai ), cook stove, dryer, and the rarely used thru-the-wall Empire space heater. Use averages in the high 100's/year. The 2 wood stoves are 24/7, 99+ % heating. YMMV JMNSHO
How the sausage gets made: Cooler Winter, Low Days of Propane Supply Seen… A rep once told me that they've never met the owner of a propane company here (NC & SC) that didn't own a beach house. Take that as you will.
I'm seeing some high prices here.. I think a lot of the price difference depends on location. I have a 500 gallon tank owned by the propane supplier. There's no fee for use, but I have to buy from them. I use propane for the forced air furnace, cook top, and also to fire a boiler for infloor heat and domestic hot water. I almost never use the infloor. Until I can get a wood stove I'll keep using propane as my main source of heat. This year I pre-bought 1200 gallons at $1.339 a gallon. I'll get through the winter with some left over, and the balance will be credited towards next seasons purchase...
We put a 500 gallon tank in the ground in August (Switched from oil), It runs heat, stove, generator and on demand hot water heater. Just had a top off at 2.99$ gal. We decided to go with a small family owned company and couldn't be happier with them.
I have a 500 gallon tank and I only fill it once a year no matter if it needs it or not. I always fill it during the summer because around here they have summer rates and winter rates. I looked it up and the summer rate last summer that I paid was 1.39. Thank you wood stove and the 3 year plan.
Yup, summer/winter rates here also. Sept. was $1.29/gal. Got a mailer before Christmas @ $1.69/gal- reg. was $2.19. Just filled up @ $ 2.16/gal. I've never burned this much in the last 10 years so it's been an eye opener, but with the stove out of commission it was necessary. Luckily my new flue pipe was shipped today so another few weeks and I'll be back to burning. (wood that is.)
I just ordered propane so the timing on this this thread is timely. $1.59/ gal and I'm at 25% remaining on my 500 gallon tank (they only fill to 80%). It's been four years since I last filled it, so about $10.00/month for the cook stove, garage heater and occasional furnace use. Gotta love wood heat! My propane guy doesn't offer summer pricing and over the years he has averaged between $1.59 to $1.89. He did have that spike a few years ago when propane pricing went crazy up to $5.00 gal, but luckily I didn't need any. I was glad to see the price at $1.59, since I thought it would be a little more.
