I’ve done that in the past with elm rounds that I couldn’t split but these are coming apart nicely. Plus I’m trying to do this as quickly as possible and not draw extra attention to myself. Not totally sure running a saw on bank owned property is legit. Plus the tree company left one of their trucks on site so I’d imagine they will be back soon.
I have one of those ramps for a 4 wheeler that splits into 2 pieces. Might give that a go. If I can’t muscle them up there myself then no loss, and I’ll just continue to do what I’ve been.
A book? A leaflet? Maybe, just a comment or two. Lol I'm all for whatever works for folks. I'd recommend everyone try a few different ways to break big rounds into manageable sizes. Keep them all in your back pocket for the right application.
That is one great score! For sure if I had to I might be tempted to hire some help to get it all before the crew came back. I'd for sure not hesitate even to take a day off work for that one.
Going to head back over in a bit. Best part about this is it’s probably 2/10 of a mile away. It was quite a good show watching them get that out of the other tree, did a good job though. Definitely wouldn’t want to be the one up in the bucket making those cuts.
I have a pair of ramps came in handy rolling/sliding all manner of things in and out of the truck bed.
And I’m done! Took 4 loads out last night and 2 really big ones today. I got most of the limbless trunk. There’s still about 20 feet of trunk that has all the limb necks. Unless they cut and drop it in my driveway I’m not messing with it, too hard to roll and hand split. Pumped on this score, one of my best ones because of the straight wood and how close it was to my house.
Here she is all unloaded and ready for further processing. My wife really cracks me up sometimes. She comes home after being gone since early today when the pile was much much smaller and she quotes my favorite news anchor Ron Burgandy, “boy, that escalated quickly. I mean, that really got outta hand fast.” She doesn’t mind though, keeps me busy and semi in shape and keeps her warm all winter. Oops, picture won’t upload. Too big, it’s a panoramic.
