I'm about 3 cords so far. However, I just replaced my door gasket and now I'm getting substantially better performance.

I’m a little over 4 cords deep right now. I cut a lot of wood this winter. Clearing a larger area out back to stack a few years out.

I have burned through almost a cord here at home in the hearth that warms up our lower living area and about a cord at our cabin for this year's heating season which consists of a week during October grouse season, a week during November rifle deer season, and a week over the New Years. My wife and I will have another 7-10 days up there through heating season which will wrap up sometime in early May for all practical purposes, other than a few warming morning fires in the stove possibly through Memorial day.

I have 4 cords CSS of sugar maple and birch, and another cord of mixed poplar and black ash all ready to go...and plan to cut up another good bit of wood up north as soon as possible in the spring, and then again in fall right up to deer season.

Its been a "colder than norm" considering the last couple of years as a whole. I just brought up the end of cord number 3. That will be gone in a day or two... So I'll be onto working on cord four by middle of the week. But I've got plenty in reserves and more waiting to get into that position....:saw::axe::stacker::coldfire:

That's awesome that you got her convinced. I too had an open FP in my house and the wife took a bit of convincing to get to go to an insert, and we burned all the time in that FP. It had a heatilator blower grate, but still was more inefficient than efficient.

Putting the quadrafire insert in my FP was the best decision ever.

Now we have cold temps about to move in. Hopefully the last of the really cold temps this year. I'll be bringing up the locust, hickory and beech. Oh yeah those few pieces of 10 years seasoned apple will be brought in from the garage.

    Yes, patience is key.

My wife took a while to train to use the stove, but she gets it now. She has zero patience. I've got a ton of it.

I've been scrunching my gasket to get it to seal better. It helps, but I know I should have replaced my door gasket before the season started. It will be changed before next heating season. papadave , can you remind me say around the first week of September? ;)

I should’ve stated, we are replacing the Pot Belly that is downstairs. We would never think about closing the fireplace upstairs. We fully know and accept the inefficiency of it.

That's what my wife said too.;)

Then I found a bow front quadrafire 4100i for sale on CL. She absolutely loves it. She had even told me that she wishes that she listened to me earlier about putting this type of insert in the FP. You get way more heat, and actually more flame light from the insert than the old glass doored FP. Plus less dirt/wood mess brought in due to using less wood.

Right after my wife painted the oak cabinet doors white, and we put in the weathered whitewash style top areas. It was all .dark oak like the mantle previously.

5 cords this year. Usually burn 6-7 a season. This seasons firewood was a mix of various species, Oak, Maple, Ash and Walnut. From this point forward most of my wood piles are stacked per year cut and species so I’ll have more consistent burn times.

I should have added, I just moved in almost a cord of ash, beech, maple and a little bit of red oak. A nice mix as we are hopefully moving into spring soon.
