This topic has come up multiple times here. I do not/will not watch drama created crap shows on TV. If it isn't a movie or a documentary, I'm usually found right here pounding out Morse code on the laptop's keyboard. Listen to youtube music. Stream radio stations. Research what tools I can't live without and don't understand how I lived without them for so long. FHC is a bookmarked site for certain. Question is, does anyone else use/prefer their computer as an alternative to TV programing?
I got a Hulu acct a few months ago (commercial free) and could easily do without Dish service. But.. Chazsbetterhalf does like cop drama shows NCIS and such, I don't mind them at all, but it's not my preferred genre. Then there's football, Chazsbetterhalf is a huge football fan, so I don't think we'd have a harmonious relationship if I got rid of that. I stream music through Pandora, and have it on most of the day at work and outside. Couldn't imagine watching "TV" on the computer, the big screen is "smart TV" and I tether it to my phone for Hulu.
99% of the time I use my iPad through my TV for just about everything. Youtube, Netflix etc. If I get on the actual computer it’s mostly work related as it’s easier to grab my phone or iPad to find what I’m looking for. I spend enough nights on the road I have plenty of time to be reminded that I don’t need a dish or cable. Nascar is the only thing I miss but I usually catch enough to satisfy my cravings. I have too much in the shop to spend the time watching TV! Lol.
My laptop sits right by my recliner on a swivel mount. I watch alot of You tube and have a few bookmarked sites such as this. I only watch some sports, reality shows such as Live PD, Car shows, Maine Cabin Builders, Barnwood Builders, Fishing channel, etc. on the T.V. I pvr my favorite shows on a scheduled basis and able to watch them minus the repeated stupid commercials. Out of a couple hundred tv channels on my dish, I probably watch about 12.
I could definitely do without cable, but it might cause some friction. Plus, we still have a huge tube tv that would require some sort of adapter to stream through, if that's even possible. If the thing ever dies, I'll make the case to pull the plug on cable.
I NEED to know where you got that. Wife has wanted one for a while now, and I haven't had much luck finding one. Is yours mounted to the wall?
We are not television watchers at all. Most people watch in a day more than we watch in a year. If tv went out we could easily get along without it. On the computer I have a few bookmarked sites and wife and I will often watch some movie that is on youtube.
Back to the question, I don't give a rat's patootie about most of the stuff on cable. I seem to remember when we first got cable (back in the stone age, for you younger folks), seems like there were no commercials. Now, I get the privelege of paying for cable AND watching commercials. Hate it, but wife likes the cop/lawyer/hospital shows....... Wife got a deal on our DTV last year and it ran out (I've been expecting it), so she called and told 'em..."deal, or no deal". They gave her the deal, but even slightly better than last year. Love that woman. Anywho, I use the internet for everything....mostly YouTube. Our son told us about Hulu a few years ago, so we used that for a while too. I fully expected it to go pay service, which it did, so I no longer go there. I'd probably spend more time in the shop if we got rid of Frontier......hmmmm. Nah. Oh, we're still on an "up to" 6 Mb plan, but only get 3. Got an e-mail from them just before Christmas '17 saying our speeds would be increasing and service would improve (they took gubment "Connect America" money for this), but hasn't happened yet. Still seems like they're keying on the higher populated areas. Not supposed to be doing it that way. Gotta' agree Dave, EVERY show creates some sort of drama to be fixed by the end of the 1/2 hour, or hour. Yay, we saved the world. Next week, we'll do it again. It's very tiring.
i cant stand much tv at all ,if it was up to me the cable would be gone an occasional movie is it for me and those are mostly older ones , i can kill some time with the computer but it seems every day there are more adds on there as well ,you cant even read a news story with out adds ,tweets and other interruptions it gets quite frustrating ,but i hate to say it ,i need the computer for selling , craigslist , fhc, etc ,i wish all the electronics would go away ,i get a lot of crap for not having a cell phone ,im not old either but i think i would have liked the earlier times .
Got it at staples. It is the type that swivels and extends out and in on a jointed arm. It is designed to clamp onto a desk top. I have it clamped to a small table we have in the family room where my "command" center is. My command center consists of my vibrating, heated elec. lift lazy boy, police monitor, computer, telephone and weather center and 46" wide screen. I rule this part of the kingdom from the command center..................................
My regular watches include: Rodeo Video, Indiana Jack , Trucking with Selena, Millennial Farmer, alot of Scottish Marching Pipe & Drum music, alot of Bluegrass, alot of the older Country Music artists. Alot of farming, trucking and car videos.
The girls watch a bit of TV and I sometimes join them, but overall, I don't watch TV. Surf around the web trying to learn something on the computer instead. I have a fairly varied set of interests and so there is always something new to learn.
Most video game consoles will access the internet and let you use streaming services. My old TV wasn't a smart TV. I bought a used Nintendo Wii to access netflix.
No cable or satellite TV available at my house. Too far from the road and too many trees. An antenna that the previous owner installed lets me watch local news. Netflix is great for $10 a month and I just joined Amazon prime a few days ago. Cheaper than cable, more selection, picks up where I left off, and no commercials.
