WOW, if I did the same all you'd see is white. Nothing like that possible around here for another 2 weeks at a min. a month more likely.
Just a couple of miles south of the "Frozen Tundra". You can reduce your burning of firewood if close your windows once summer ends.
6 for sure. Maybe close to 6 1/2? Dunno. First part was nice and mild. Jon_E That OWB will burn just as much wood as you throw into it. On the mild days/nights (mid 20's and above) it still heats everything with only 1/2 load in the OWB. Try it.
Was then with house fire, some mobility issues and really wet fall kind of slowed me down.. I got wood out back BUT it's not dry enough.. Burning some pine in daytime to get through.. Springs coming.. Should be back on track by October.. I do not cut or split on ice..
2.4 normally I burn about four by now. I finally got around to replacing my stove door gasket. I could kick myself.
Ah, yes...you have your hands full there. You get too far behind you'll hafta host a NE gtg...that would bolster the ole reserves!
I feel you on that. I underestimated how much I would need going into my first year with the OWB. I have been cutting and burning dead elms. All but the largest rounds are below 20%. Josh
A cord of pine for sure. A fair bit but less than that of elm chunks. 1/3 cord or so of oak. Maybe 2 cords total.
I am at the 17ish range with another good 3-3.5 months of heating 24/7 still to go. With the highs above zero, we are reloading the inside rack every 5 days verse 4.
I have burned about 2 cords this winter. I've been out of town a few weeks, and my wife doesn't burn much when I am not here. On the other hand the kids were home for Christmas break and kept the stove hot the entire time, which is not always the case here. On the whole I'd rate this as an average winter of burning so far.
the picture is what I had left 03/10/18. Im doing a little better this year with a little over a cord to last 'til spring.
Here in the NW this has been the coldest February in many years. We have burned just under 3 cords so far. Other than the cold, one reason we have burned so much is that I have been cleaning out a lot of Deodar cedar. Does not have the BTU's of Fir and Madrone that I normally burn. Other side of the shed has 3.5 cords of dry Fir, Locust and Madrone in it. Be interesting to see what that does for us. About 4 cords of Fir, locust, cherry and Madrone stacked front of the shed with a tarp on top. Looking to go cut some more shortly. Have a lead on a trailer and a half of Madrone and couple trailers of Fir.
As far as I can estimate we're at about 4.5 cord so far. At least a cord of which was pine. Heating 100% with wood, burning since 09/27. First year with indoor stove.. If I was still running the owb we'd be ten cord deep at least! By virtue of the reduced consumption, I'm on the three year plan already.
About 6. Hard to be sure because I sorted out some short ones and took them to my folks. My wife talked me into not completely filling the lean-to last Fall so it could become a garage more quickly. So I’ve hauled some in from the stacks recently. Had a guy driving by see me doing this, and he stopped to ask if I had wood to sell. I asked how much he needed, and he said not much, as his convertible wouldn’t hold much(!). Told him I’d sell him a trunk load for $5. He only took two medium arm loads and was happy. Then he couldn’t come up with $5 in cash, but he had $3 and an Omaha steak, but I have freezers full of excellent beef. Then he came up with a local microbrew. That worked ok, so off he went to his ski rental to burn his wood. (Rutland Beer Works, Unconcluded. It was pretty good. )
I grabbed my own quote from another post. This was at the end of December. I have a hard time keeping track as I'm always grabbing extra wood from outside the shed. But ballpark is 1/2 cord Sept -Oct (maybe?probably higher). As of start of November, I had a half cord of uglies on shed floor now gone, a 8 foot by 7 foot row gone, and about 3 feet down on the next row. Call it .5 + .5 + .6 + .2 so far so I dunno 1 3/4 or 2 cords? Add on 1 3/4 or 2 cord to that...Definitely the most wood burned in 5 years of feeding a wood stove. I think I've made it through other seasons start to finish on 3 1/2 cord.
I think I have done over 3 cord. Spent a few hours Sunday doing the css into the shed by the boiler. I have decided what is there will determine when I shut down the dragon for this season. Have almost stacked next season’s supply already, and plan to keep cutting like mad for the three year plan, plus a good supply of fireplace wood for home and our weekend place.
Guesstimate here, about 2 1/2, maybe 3 cords. I have cut 1 1/2 To replenish since the first of the year, just had the splitter and construction lights set up tonight splitting.
