Was a good Alaskan spring day, bluebird skies, must have been close to +20* as the highs. Was originally going to just transport a load of wood home after work today. But my help wanted to load all the sleds and for me to cut and buck as much wood as I can over the next few days so he can transport from the woods to the office, and get everything staged. It was one of those everything fell into place days. I cut and bucked 8 birch. Came home to a turkey dinner, a very welcome meal after a long day at work and gathering wood. 7C1FD2EF-EB22-4CA9-B533-4966C4D83AC3.jpeg

Heres a photo of our thermometer this morning at 8 am. Not quite what you had but it was chilly here as well. Were sitting at -19c/-2f at the moment with the house temp upstairs from the wood stove sitting at 24c/75f. I have no idea what the stove room is where Im sitting right now but Im in shorts with a mild sweat going on. I have the coals raked forward and waiting a few minutes for the right time for my night reload of larch. The husky is panting but isnt leaving the room for some reason.

I have no idea how dire the situation is but it sounds like some folks could be in danger. I hope everyone makes it back to shore ok. If you hear any news Id be interested to hear everyone is safe.

I heard that anglers on 130,000 acre Lake Mille Lacs were all accounted for by last night.

The situation on Lake of the Woods is more concerning.

    https://bringmethenews.com/minnesot...100-anglers-are-stranded-on-lake-of-the-woods

News this morning is stating that they are hopeful that they all will be found sometime today.

12 feels like -5, 77 inside on a fresh reload of mostly beech. Wind gusts up to 57 mph yesterday afternoon/overnight with up to 50 today. Winter isn’t over yet

Looks like winter is setting in according to 10 day. Fri/Sat 34/39 and mid teens low 20s the rest of the 10 day. Some of the best wood I've burned is in the wood room right now.
Burning down the morning coal slag with a couple small pieces of beech. Will reload with beech and 15lbs of coal before I leave for the day.

4BA31A30-1696-4F7D-A292-C4C9DFB28F71.png Woke to a suprise, it’s colder than forecasted, can hardly wrap my head around this. How can the weather guessers be wrong, they are still gainfully employed? Spruce has the abode nice and warm in spite of our meteorologists best efforts. If the pattern pans out the sun should warm us to near +20*, forecast is for full sun and +19* . I hope all fairs well this day, I need to start my day so it will be over and I can get to bringing home some firewood.

If the relative temps on the Environment Canada jet stream map are any indication, all of Canada is at varying levels of suck it seems.:D I read an article yesterday that said this was the 2nd coldest February ever for the city in 133 years, the worst being in the 1930's. And that we will most likely be below normal until March 20th or there abouts.

Wow! Well, you timed your wood consumption just about right.
