So I’ll build on my original question I drive by this tree everyday. Last week I saw someone cutting it down. Drove by the next and it had been cut into rounds and piled. The tree is in the middle of a field 500+ yards from any house. Safe to assume someone will be splitting those rounds??
If it's neatly cut, almost definitely. Look for other cues, too - chimney, trailer parked on the property, woodshed, etc. Can't hurt to ask, but I've never seen anybody around here neatly stack rounds unless it's going to be fuel.
Yeah, on someone's property, cut n stacked, it's likely destined for a woodburner. Once again, can't hurt to ask.
Welcome to the club Sean Easterly Clearly you've found where you belong here. Great score and pics. You even managed to get a pic of your pup in there
sorry about that DBH! In a couple weeks on FHC ive learned a few words/phrases ive never heard...shoulder season, windrows, sawbuck, noodling are the four i remember right now!
thought i'd add this on to my post, well the PNW got some snow!! We had 9'' and 2 days without power, flakes up to 1.5'' and lots of them. BUT, i did get some sawing in!! yup, not the maples i mentioned, BUT, some Chinese cherry tree's , the snow broke some branches off, so, when i saw them go, i headed to the shop. Grabbed the 261, fired it up, and headed across the street. Had to do it, the limbs were in the street, ha,ha,ha. So, jumped on it, and cut it up asap, that was at 7:30 AM. Not one person said a thing to me, i'm guessing most were still asleep, ha,ha. I tossed the brush on the beauty strip and called it good. Then, started shoveling snow. I like to keep the sidewalk clean for the mail carrier, and the driveway of course. Got it done, grabbed some wood, then the neighbor behind caught me out back and asked if he could borrow some wood. So, i tossed some over the fence for him, they are good people, young and have a 7 yr old boy. Going to help him get some wood in this spring, he don't know that yet, but, i'm going to make sure he's ready for next winter. They just moved in and seem to be really good people. Really glad they moved in, the last one's were real ''jewel's''. Got our power back this morning at 1:10 am, we have a generator and lots of wood, so, we were pretty well set. But, it was getting on the wife's nerves, lol. Its still pretty cold, snows going to be around for a couple more day's i'm sure, who knows we might be getting some more, but, the weather chan on the desk shows sun, we'll see. I'll post some pictures later on.
For this dumb a$$, would the intelligencia kindly write a sentence using the word "jonesing" so us can learn what the H it really means ? Forget Google. I need to see. "Addicted " to what ? Careful now, I'll not give the real definition of "noodling" that no one knows.
... I haven't had lasagna in a while, I'm really jonesing for some right now. I will have to get the Mrs. to cook me up a batch.
At last !!! No more dumb a$$. Now, let's have some of the intelligensia give the unwashed a complete sentence with "noodling a butt " . Have you noodled today ?
I have no shame in my wood game I will ask anyone anything bout firewood sometimes it takes me awhile to work up the nerve but 9outof10 times ppl will love to get rid of there wood for no cash and no work for them.
Then there are the ppl that tell you they want the wood and that is ok. Then years later you drive by and the wood is still laying there in their yard rotting. I drive by a large Maple (42"dbh and 20' long) that was cutdown about five or six years ago, I stopped and offered to help cut it with my 2100 and was told that He the landowner was going to do it as he had gotten a new saw. Still there and starting to rot. I wasn't even asking for the wood just wanted to run my saw. Go figure!
No. You obviously have a different definition of noodling than the one commonly used on FHC...which can be a very useful firewood making technique sometimes.
Noodling is a technique people use down south to catch large catfish. Here it means cutting up a difficult tree crotch which produces noodle like shavings due to cutting with the grain in many cases. Lets see, you can also noodle around trying to find or fix something. Ex. I was "noodling" around with the remote, but still couldn't get it to work. Is there another use of the word I'm not aware of?
Im the same way, but have got more brazen in the last couple years. Few weeks ago, im driving home and i happen upon a pile of uncut logs next to the road. I go this way a lot and they werent there the last time. I see a tree service sign in the front yard so i stopped, got out and started to call the tree service and the homeowner pulls in and i asked them. "Its our wood and if you want it take all you want" Not having the time til the weekend, i went the following Sunday and they had posted a sign "free wood cut all you want" and there is already a guy there cutting and loading. He got a truck full and i cut all the nice straight ash for two truck fulls. Had i not asked i probably got nothing. The guy next door later tells me he is having some trees cut down, gave him my number and have pulled two truckfulls from there. Problem is tree service cut the rounds and the lengths are all different. I prefer to cut to my own specs, but hey you cant beat the price.
