Dumb maple ?

sorry no pics but I think this will be an easy one.
What’s the maple that gets the brown dots/streaks in it when bucked?
Good, bad or indifferent? Thnx

 

Box Elder or Swamp Maple? Dries fast, good shoulder season wood.

Thanks. Silver and swamp seem to be the same thing so that’s what I’ll consider it.
Got another tree to pick up. Not even crazy about the idea but this guy keeps recommending me. Might as well keep that bridge intact.

 

Always keep wood bridges intact.. I had a guy (since moved down south) feeding me all kinds of pine, poplar, willow.. Last two he gave me right before he moved was two trucks full of apple and a three stemmed sugar maple that was so bountiful it fed the boiler all the hardwood it needed for the better part of a year.

 

I'd take all the silver maple I could get. But here sugar, Norway,Silver, Red, black maples are all different and swamp maple is aka boxelder..

 

Wish I could get my hands on more Silver Maple...it grows like a weed around here so I dunno why I only occasionally can get it

 

Yep, dries fast & burns decent. Ran my boiler for 3 months on it till it got cold.

 

I’ve always heard swamp used as a common name for red maple.

I asked the same a couple weeks ago and it is. Up North i leaned its called box elder...different tree.

 

Yes, but box elder is in maple family, Acer.. Just don't tap it

 

I've got a whole mess of silver maple on deck for '20-'21. Looking forward to it! Lights up fast, moderate to low ash, and the splitting job was pretty easy.. We'll See how the trunk goes in spring, I expect it will also be easy splitting once I wrestle it into the splitter!

 

They both can survive with their feet wet. So I'm not surprised they both can be referred to as "swamp" maples if that's where they are found growing commonly.
