At work we have a 1988 Dodge Truck with a 318 engine and a manual transmission. It only has 17k miles on it and is in excellent condition. I use it as a service truck and travel to several locations with it. It appears that the rear main seal is now leaking rather bad now. On the Advance Auto website it appears to be a 2 piece seal. What would be involved in reaplacing that? Thank you!

Never done one, but pretty easy to find the info.

1988 should have a 1 piece seal...I think. If not, that's what I would put back in, if at all possible. Shouldn't be a bad job (especially if its 2wd) unless things go sideways on ya...as they tend to do on 30 YO vehicles.

Number of years ago i did one for someone, said it was the second one in a year, hmmmmm
Found the crank thrust bearing was toasted allowing the crank to move almost 3/8" in and out, which took out the seal, ended up swapping the crank

Hopefully yours is just a seal!!
