We have steady snow at the moment, but it’ll be rain before noon after a few inches so it’ll be sloppy. They’re talking up the winds coming tomorrow so power outages are likely. Then back in the deep freeze for most of the week so I won’t be getting out much either. Hopefully we’ll start thawing out soon! It’s March 1st next Friday, our 39th wedding anniversary. I’ll be happy if it’s not -25 on that day like on our wedding day in 1980 in Caribou. That winter was cold enough to drive the frost so deep it froze water lines buried 8’ underground in the County. 26 and 76 still on coals.
The weather guessers are right on par with their awesomeness. Only missed the low by 14*, at least the spruce is reliable and has the house toasty warm. At least I have 2 sleds ready to go at work, all I have to do is load the birch in the truck, today and tomorrow. Today must be have fun at work day. I hope all of y’all with bad weather make it through unscathed.
Well. The sh_tshow has arrived anybody east of iowa. Hang on. This one is noooo good. Freezing rain. Snow. Major wind. Locked in and warm. Be safe. This one is no joke.
Temp is dropping fast here just west of Mpls and the wind is ferocious. I am thankful I had the foresight to pull my spear shack last week. The lakes and wide open areas are going to be seas of deep drifts. A plowed ice road would drift into some hard pack within 30 min right now.
Nice score on the dead birch. I dont see any spider webbing/rot in that load from the pics posted. You must have caught it just in time.
-24c/-11f under sunny skies. The stove is loaded with spruce and doug fir. Im packing up for a hike in ice fishing afternoon today. Temps should warm up in the sun this afternoon.
31* with a real feel of 11*. Wind is cranking. 69* in with Ash & Locust. Not calling for snow here just cold and windy. We shall see.
We missed out on another storm yesterday as we did not get much at all. So far missed on the wind but it has picked up and is howling through the treetops. Just checked 2 weather stations near us and one says 20-31 and the other says 22-36 for the present wind. I hope we miss out on the strong winds.
Was raining for a bit, and the snow is now starting. Slightly windy, but not bad yet. Temps are beginning to drop.
I was a great snag. I have 5-7 loads worth of rounds that look just like it, in the woods ready to be transported to the truck. I am looking forward to have so much hardwood. It will be nice to burn, and have some longer burn times over spruce.
Looking at the weather map-in-motion, I'm not sure this thing is going to pan out how they thought. Looks to be moving across the state.......maybe a few more hours.
We stopped over to MikeInMa cabin off the Kanc today, crazy wind through the franconia notch on the way, then rough going through the pass. Hung out a couple hours (a great time) with really no wind but the head home, debris everywhere the closer we got, a decent sized roof near bretton woods was wrapped around a tree about 20 feet up. Was getting nervous as we proceeded home, more debris everywhere! Got home, road semi blocked from branches and trees all the way up to the house. No damage, but a mess everywhere. Needed to use the tractor to move away the top of the big standing dead pine some of you saw at thr g2g, right where Mike parked. Things calming down for now, but wow.
The winds picked up quite a bit, and so did the snow. This system seems to be parked right on top of us, taking it's good old time leaving.
