Grabbed this one this morning. Came with some extra plastic the guy planned on using and a carb rebuild kit. He said he hasn’t even tried starting it but the previous owner said it needed carb work. He also told me the there was some scoring on the cylinder. I think he meant piston. Compression looks good to me. Got it for less than I paid for fuel line and filter, bulkhead, transition and tank vent for the stubborn 55. I’ll mess with it later today.
I fueled and it didn’t take long to get her to pop. And she ran some but not well. And it’s cleaning up pretty well. I’m going to replace the softgoods in the carb, as long as it’s the right kit, and the fuel line and filter see where it goes. There is some streaks on the piston and exhaust port is pretty coaked up. The high adjustment was out 3.5 turns on the carb. Wonder it was masking an air leak.
It does run. Aside from fuel line/filter and carb work, I replaced the shorting wire that had been taped. At one point I had lost spark and hoped it was in that line. A lot cheaper than a new coil, if I could find one. Tuned the H and L according to the setting stickers on the case. Still needs some attention. But I’m happy with it so far. Has some snap.
