All good in the hood. I just raked around the coals and filled her up as usual for the overnighter. Probably too full, pressure against glass i guess. She just broke open. Luckily it was white oak that doesnt take off for crap hahaha... pulled out all logs, then after a 10 minute brain fart with the house filling with smoke i just shoveled out all coals and took them out. Stove shop will be getting a call first thing in the morning, though we have a winter storm in bound..
What caused this??? One time I started snugging the handle down shut while pressed against a split that was hitting the glass. Realized the pressure and and stopped, but wondered if something like this might of happened
just remembered that happened to me once. The apt a rented had a fireplace with a bifolding glass doors. I stuffed a cardboard box in the fire and closed the doors. Flares up and the glass imploded with a loud pop. Scared the h#%l out of me and GF. I was young and stupid at the time, now im just stupid!!!
I've heard it happens from the log rolling as the fire is burning. one more reason why I burn in an owb now.
I'm gonna make sure the robot slave I get to load the stove when I'm not home can judge an improperly loaded stove and is familiar with Pauli's exclusion principle.
Oh, thats true... I used to load wood that way the first year I had my stove, but then discovered my stove burns better North/ South orientation
That was quick enough. How much is a spare door ? LOL. What kind of flooring is that ? It's quite red looking. At least on my monitor.
The stove shop had one piece in stock that was precut for my stove... got lucky there was no lead time. That is super dirty (wet snow outside and i was wearing boots back and forth working on door) black cherry. The entire house has it.
Yeah, the boot/hiking shoe prints are there, it's still an interesting/different wood and color for a floor.
I'm curious why did the smoke back out into the house ? My stove just acts like a fireplace with the door open or off, won't even get as hot with all the extra air going through.
When you first start the stove you can watch the smoke swirl up against the glass, Im not sure if its the burn tubes or what?
Hey congrats on the quick fix... You weren't down more than a few hours! If I didn't know any better I would've assumed you called Safelite haha! Perhaps SERVEPRO would be more fitting here - "Like it never even happened". Oh and great look of the whole set up
When I was a kid a few of us were playing with a squirt gun and "accidentally " shot the glass.....boom !
