Thanks, need to look into that. Another vehicle is additional oil changes, brakes, repairs, registration/plates, insurance. Etc.

I found little minivan for sale and spilled this over the bullchitting thread :emb:

Do you partially cover/ cover the radiator?

I have my radiator almost entirely covered with coraplast (plastic cardboard) the only part that isn't covered is the smallish area where my additional transmission cooler is. It made almost no difference in warm up. I actually have left it on there since I installed it years ago, as I dont tow heavy in the summer.

    Thank you Bullet.
I do not. But plan to.

Hoarders suggested it to me years ago before and during my electric blankets powered via inverters (both missing now), then blazer escapades yadda yadda. The grill cover function was explained to me in a different way today and I'm sorry I did not try it sooner.

Long story short, he found the cord to the block heater tonight
Will give the grill cover/block heater a try. And poss an aux 12v heater.

The cheap 12v heaters like from harbor freight don't do much. Another option is a circulation heater. Install it in the heater hose and it will pump warm coolant through the heater core. Kat's Engine Heaters Circulating Tank Heater, 1,500W at Tractor Supply Co.

since i have seen these high fuel mileage numbers mentioned quite a few times in this thread can i get some specifics....

my old truck was an 05 f350 6.0 auto 4wd 4.10 geared dually with 9' dump bed. 10500 empty weight. 4-5mpg stock...6-8 with an edge tuner set on 60-70hp and it did those numbers empty or loaded to 30k pounds

    current truck is an 01 f250 7.3 4wd 3.73 8k empty weight.

stock form with an automatic and all highway driving was 10-12mpg empty and 6-8mpg loaded to around 20k. combined empty mileage is was around 10

upgraded the 7.3 last fall with 180/30% single shot injectors, 38R turbo and tuner with custom tunes as well as swapped to the 6 speed manual trans...fuel mileage didnt change but it does everything much faster.

our 01 f250 5.4 6 spd truck is just an absolute turd when loaded to even a mild 15k. 12mpg empty 4-5mpg loaded but those are combined numbers since it rarely left town

Plugged in and started 10 minutes before you need to leave should do the trick.

My experience with block heaters is that you have heat blowing within seconds of startup

I bought the injectors from Full Force, got a turbo rebuild kit at the same time just haven't got around to installing it yet.

Mine as well, I was saying 10 minutes to warm the cab up some so she gets into a warm truck.

    THANKS A BUNCH HOARDERS!
94BULLITT , brenndatomu Horkn and Mwalsh9152 . The block heater helped today:yes:. It wasn't as hard start this morning despite it being 5* & been parking outside for awhile, it heated up faster than usual  Still irked the darn block heater and cord was there this whole time after all these years but glad I have it working for me now. Next is a grill cover (cardboard for now), might have to take plastic guard in the under the hood off, if so, in daylight this weekend. And I still have the other options of an aux heater and water circulator :) If I still need more heat.

Any tips on windows freezing shut? Interesting since we don't get ice here, just very dry powdered sugar snow. It seems it's the bottom rubber seal on both front doors (haven't explored the back windows). Thought about parrafin for the top seal but not sure how to get any in the bottom seal?

Its a common issue...it seems the assembly line guys take some kind of warped pleasure from hiding those plugs in places that can only be seen or reached after disassembling half the truck! :picard:

As for the freezing windows...yeah, I dunno...its a problem...I have the same thing happen a lot on my work car that sits outside full time...tried all kinds of stuff, no big winners yet.

wildwest short term put some cooking spray on rubber gaskets.. See if that helps..

Or silicone spray just do top and sides so you don't get smudges..

I'm glad the block heater helped wildwest .

It's try silicone spray on the seals of the doors/ windows to see if that helps. Roll the window down then spray a rag, then wipe the seals. That way the windows don't get all boogered up.

This answer, except I use Fluid Film. It's lanolin in a spray can.

That would work too. Probably even better than silicone spray.

NOPE, as long as the "payment" is right who cares what it actually cost. 30 year truck payments coming soon.

Actually I have an idea, pick a manufacturer send them 800 a month and you can drive what ever you want. Get tired of the 2012 drop it off and drive off in a 2018. 800 a month for life.
