Decent day outside, so I got out the splitter & went to work on some of my fence row scrounged wood. Split about a cord. The setup. The pile. Last bit for today. Red Oak. Not sure it'll dry in the bins, so stacked it in the row.
Thanks, that old Gravely is a good solid machine. Traded it for a cub low boy years back. I think I got the better end of the deal. Put a battery & one bearing in the gearbox in 9 years. Starts & runs every time. If you get Red Oak, be prepared, takes 3 yrs to dry around here & it's heavy stuff. Great heat though.
Nice looking "M". The size in the picture is deceiving. It looked a lot smaller than an "M". I sold mine "M" but wish I had it back now. What year is it? Mine was a '49.
'49 Also, great tractor for what I do. The pic does make it look smaller, but with the loader & 3 point it's pretty useful. It'll out lift similar HP Compact tractors pretty easily. They're real heavy for 40ish HP. Got a '49 H as well, but no 3 point on that one. Handy for pulling trailers & such. Biggest drawback is no power stg. She's a handful with the loader full, gotta plan the turns at low speed.
Any day working with firewood is a good day in my book. Did you finish the fence row cutting or just take break amateur cutter
No, not even close. Just had some "other" stuff going this weekend. Got 3/4 of a mile to go in the fence rows.
I have been into those size tasks here with the one farmer I cut on. Nice to have access to an abundance but it can wear you out as well.
Yep, put an outdoor boiler in last May. Have a lot of smaller split stuff I've been burning this winter that was for my old furnace. 8X8X2' is what I'm going for, they'll take a while to dry, but I've got time. I ran some 6X6" splits & man do they burn good!
Holy cow, good size! I guess in so used to my 16" 4x4 splits. Seem universal for stove/fireplace. The was a restaurant here in Southern Connecticut called the rustic oak that had a two sided firepleace. It would take 36"long logs. Whenever i ate there i would carry in a couple logs. They would usually let me put them on the fire. There was a criss cross stack (maybe 1/2 cord stacked just outside the entrance) Sadly it went out of business a couple years ago, was torn down. Many fond memories of the fire there and homemade soups, first dates too! Enjoy your fire!
That's very true. My old furnace had a 5' deep firebox, but smallish door, so it was a pita to get full. Boiler's got a nice big door & the bigger splits burn longer & take less time to process. I may actually go up to a 30" length, the splitter will take 32". They'll fit tighter in those crates.
The furnace was not efficient, I could get 8hrs at best. The boiler I load 2' in the front & go 12hrs easy in cold weather. Full load will run 24-36hrs depending on temps. That's also making hot water.
