There are a few houses that my Dad and I built and sold off years ago...I own the farm land behind the three houses and on the sides, those lots with houses are about a half acre or so. I have a field fence around that part of the farm it is 3 feet on my side of the property line then behind that fence I my side I have 3 rows of evergreen trees (so I can't see them.

One of the neighbors gets real upset at me when I walk through 'his back yard' when I check my fence line...he doesn't care that I own that 3 feet of land and I walk it maybe 3 times a year he says' I am invading his space...this is the same guy that let his dog run loose and crap in my yard/orchard for years...and I have had the property line surveyed a couple of times...funny how some of the survey markers disappeared...when I had the surveyor come back I asked him to use something longer than 2 feet of #3 rebar...he said that's all he had, I told him I got something and I would put it in where the points were while he was there...so far, the 12 foot lengths of #5 rebar have not disappeared...it was a pain getting them in, but it was absolutely worth it...had to laugh when I caught that fat so and so neighbor trying to dig one out.

Anyhow, I am real serious about my property lines and people staying off my land...3 times I have had where theses citiodt's (city idiots) have stacked firewood in that 3 foot strip leaning on my fence and tying tarps and wires on my fence to cover the wood pile. Each time I sent them a letter giving them 10 days to move it and rake up any mess, it upset them every time. One guy wouldn't do it saying I had 'too much land' of my own...ummm, I paid for it I think...I took a day off work when I knew that guy would not be around and called up the Sheriff , he said it was my land and to move it where I wanted it then he wrote up a 'warning' ticket and taped it on the neighbors front door. I tossed the good stuff over the fence and relocated it to my wood shed...about a full cord. Needless to say, that guy was real unhappy when he got home...he was quickly educated by the deputy that he should be more respectful in the country.

....that was my situation...you did things on good faith, you didn't have it in writing though...tough break, but at least they didn't toss it in a dumpster and charge you for it.

I have a situation like this due to my small property. My neighbor who has a run down garage that borders my property lets it just grow wild behind it, and he doesn't mow around the garage which is basically a derelict structure. I asked him if I could use the space to keep a cord of wood to season behind there. I told him this would help with overgrowth and small trees that constantly take root there. He said yes and so I gutted out all the overgrowth and built a small shelter there. Well I have used that space for 6 years now and this summer my neighbor walked away from his home. A lot of people are doing this all of a sudden where I live. Anyway, judging by the usual chain of events, the house will probably stay abandoned for two years before some developer is able to snag it. I will expect to be moving my stack when that day comes, but for now Im sure I could use the whole back yard if I wanted. I'm actually looking into buying the property as a rental investment, but he just left without telling me and I don't even have any info on it like a bank to contact. so I guess I wait for it to go into foreclosure. If I get it for the right price Ill take it, but truthfully, even though I would love to own a bordering property, these people were like hoarders and I bet the house needs a total gut.

Over 20 years in that field being the guy in the middle. I may have developed a bit of sarcasm :whistle:People can be certifiably crazy about property line issues/disputes. I do not miss that part of the work at all! Hopefully the OP can get his storage organized properly without further dispute.

Some places I have had surveyed more than once. Hard for someone to argue with a survey. It was a lot of money, but it was money well spent and I don't regret it at all. One area I 'lost' 5 feet, one area I 'gained' 120 feet. A good surveyor is worth the money...and for the most part it end's a lot of the bickering...One guy didn't like the way a survey came out and said it was wrong, I told him to get his own survey done and if the markers were off by more that 5 inches I would pay the bill (provided he did the survey within 30 days)...his response was that I should mind my own business, apparently my laughter really upset him...oh well...I pay the taxes and I don't want someone else's dogs crapping on my yard, I don't want them riding snow machines or dirt bikes on my fields or roads...I don't want the liability or their so called 'company'...if they want to do those kind of things let them buy enough land to do it or go find a trail somewhere...I probably sound like a miserable so & so, but I have had things stolen, destroyed, farm animals harassed and game poached in years past...Fortunately I haven't had any major issues in about 10 years...I like it that way...My belief is that if you don't own it, then you shouldn't be there without clear and preferably written permission... I have worked too hard to buy my land and keep it.

Try to get a hold of the big boss from corporate , and Reason with her , I think it's better to have a little wood there than 4 foot high weeds on the whole lot , the local park manager Is probably not going to go to bat for you , you Can't work anything out With the big boss if you don't try ,But If she says no After that Then that's it , you gotta move it

I apologize for taking this thread off on a tangent. Land ownership and respect of other's property used to be more common than it is today. I believe that many people now a days just don't care that someone worked hard for their property and to keep it paid for. Things have gotten out of control with the 'Hooray for me and the heck with you' attitudes. I really believe that I treated some of these people that way I have been treated that they would have shot me, could you imagine if I did doughnuts with my four wheeler in their back yard in the spring mud season?...okay, they have less than an acre of land and I have a whole lot more...to me it's the same kind of wrong. Respect yourself and other's, just not seeing that much lately and yeah, to me that is very disheartening and concerning. I take pride in being a temporary steward of a hunk of dirt and the effort I have poured into my property and my home that is on it....I am willing to let your dog crap on my property if your willing to let my 4 geese hang out in your garage for a few days....just goes to show you that I am willing to barter :D

I am too, ask nicely ahead to access my property for bow hunting, hunting Morels or just enjoying the place and I'll gladly welcome you.
But arrogantly trespass and my hackles are up.

I treat my neighbors the same as I want to be treated.
I needed to drop a tree that needed to fall on my neighbors property.
I asked first, cut up the tree into stove sized chunks and stacked them, collected the top and made a brush pile where the neighbor said it was OK.
And I gave the firewood to my neighbor even tho the tree was growing on my side of the line.

Respect, it should go both ways.

Yup I lived in one of those places in the 1970's. Best thing that happened to me was getting laid off long term and moving the crap house to our property up north and selling it.

The nerve to tell me I had to buy a shed minum 8x8 to store my 22 inch lawn mower in . Only stored it 3 days in the back of my pick up there any way.

The nerve to say I could not ride my motor cycle to work and back home second shift, to noisy. Yet the guy next door had a road runner and pipes and every morning liked to rappp it a lot. Untill after management said nothing they could do and I called the local law for car/truck noise issues.

Living in a Stupid condo I feel is a better option than a moble home. 5 seconds after you sign the papers it is worth half what you paid for it.
Once it is ten years old your lucky to get the price the axles sell for.

I had a similar problem at my place. I’m surrounded by farm fields and the owner is a large business owner, with thousands of acres. There is a grass buffer zone to the north that is his, but I mow it and take care of it; it’s been like that for years. I dumped some logs on that side one day in a hurry and it quickly morphed into a 70’ log pile over the summer from tree jobs. The land owner chewed my azz and demanded I move it. So I did, 5’ over onto my property. I was in the wrong and he let me correct it. Was it petty, yes, but I didn’t ask for permission and had to deal with the problem I created.

Good for you, kinda one of those things that is petty, but they gotta draw the line somewhere. Keep your head up and keep on cutting wood!

Very true. None of that was planned. I was done out of necessity. Tough pill to swallow, but it kept our family going....reality is like most situations by fixing one problem we created two others (made some money on the houses we sold off, but got neighbors in the process). At least I have enough land to be a 1/4 mile away from them.

I have 15 cords stored on my landlords property. His son who mantains the area doesnt like me moving it closer to the fathers house even though the yard is full of junk cars, boats, dirt piles, weeds and other clutter he has hoarded. Its over 100' away from the house. When wood is available to me ill take as much as i can and process (cut, split, stack) it later when i have time. My area is somewhat cramped. He burns as well. Ive given him wood cut spit and seasoned.(my crappy stuff) and they wont even come take it. I practically have to burn it for him. So i guess abide by their rules as hard as it is. Have you tried to talk to the boss?

Big rageing deal on another fourm I belong to is a group getting permission from one land owner to run their coyote dogs there. Which of course the dogs run the whole section and probably several sections whith out any of the other land owners permission.
