People can still put unseasoned wood in a new stove and it doesn't change a thing.:zip:

    What's next ?
40 year old 60% efficient oil boilers that are still working fine ?

I'm all for clean air and discovering ways to minimize impacts on the community's health but not at the expense of those that can least afford it.

    From the article...

It would not apply to stoves that are the homes’ sole heating source, or fancy antique stoves “built before 1940 that has an ornate construction and a current market value substantially higher than a common wood stove.”

So if you spend $$$ on a restoration of an old stove, you can keep it? What is that reasoning?

Scary that the bill was only a 10-9 vote. That is too close.

Knock on wood that NY and specifically my area in Rochester is pretty dang laid back regarding wood stoves. You would think they'd be strict here, proposing bills like these, but it seems they target wood boilers more than stoves from a nuisance standpoint.

Oh, and what is the definition of "substantially", and who determines the value. Do you have to get it appraised?

The changes I've seen since moving here in the late '80's - in towns and the state in general. I'm not saying all changes are bad, just I don't think most legislation is necessary. It's been about 15 years since the "Free Staters" moved here - doesn't seem like they helped a bit.

So how would they enter your house to see what stove you have? Serve a warrant?
