Started bucking up some of our tulip poplar logs yesterday. Had my little helper on the tractor. We will get this SS today. I had bought a Husky chain to try out. It cut our hickory and post oak great. Touched it up with the file and cut the rounds that are laying there, almost had to force the saw in it. Went back and put my Stihl RS chain back on, flipped the bar, and touched that chain up. Cut the 4 logs laying on the rack, went right through it, total difference. I think the Husky has a thinner kerf and not cleaning out as good.
I think so, I don't remember what I looked like when I was 2......he is my middle grandson, lives at the end of our road, maybe 500 yrds from our house, so we see him alot. He loves to come to Meme and Grandaddy's house. Thanks
You may want to try taking a file to the gullet, you can hog it out down to the tie strap. That will give those chips lots of room to evacuate the situation. edit: Better yet, get some square grind for the size of wood you have going. It will put a smile on your face and leave you with, why has no one told me about this before now.
Thanks, I have on square ground chain I use occasionally. These logs had some dirt on the bottoms and I know how quickly it will take the edge off. The RS chain I put on is working great. I would like to get my square ground chain trued up on a grinder, do you know who has one and how much they would charge?
You can always cut almost all the way through and use your tractor FEL to roll the log over to dirt up and finish cutting from the bottom up. Most of the dirt will come off before touching the chain. May be able to use a digger bar or crow bar to knock the mud/bark off.
Got a lot more of the tulip poplar SS today. My hunny is getting hang of stacking on the pallets, that's all her handi work. Got those 5 rounds left out of the first group we bucked up.

As Midwinter said, it's raining wood. The hurricane at the end of season last year leaned this hickory and blew down another hickory and oak. He gave us the wood and paid me for the take down of the leaner. We got the leaner bucked and hauled home. Safely on the ground 1st load, main trunk and a few limbs. 2nd load, smaller limbs. It will burn...lol

I cut a lot of water oak too! It’s definitely the best name for it cause it’s full of water and man it’s heavy wet! Burns great though
Did you see the thread, "Wind damage in Deepstep GA". That was a nice water oak in our yard the blew over.
Went back today and got the second hickory. Pulling a log out of his brush pile. We were able to use the tractor to pull the top out and save it. Headed to the trailer with a nice 7 1/2' hickory log. Got the whole tree on this load. We went back to get the oak and our day got better. My friend's wife wanted another hickory took down and he said I'm paying. We got it down and one load hauled home. Probably another trailer load in the top. Had a little rot in the center that wasn't visible from the notch. Bore cut it, but still split a little. Cutting the forks off. Got it home safe.
I forgot to mention, a good brother on here, dall . I sent him my one square ground chain to sharpen. Put it on the saw Friday morning to start cutting all this hickory. Used it on all but the smaller tops, where I used my bow saw. It's been through 3 trees so far. Still cutting, might need a touch up with file. He did a super job on that chain. I highly recommend him.
