It was a beautiful day here today, in the high 20’s, firm snow for easy walking, and sunny. I cut some wood and pulled it up in a pile, but did not skid it down due to a mud hole in the trail. I’m hoping for more snow and cold so I can skid them out cleanly. The skid trail was ice in places.

The sun was strong enough to get the sap started a little. This is a stump from last weekend.

After cutting I went for a hike uphill. It gets steep - I tried using the trees and stone wall (property line) to show how it progresses, and didn’t get onto the steepest part.

I can see back to the house and barns from up here (area circled). C75E227B-37A4-47C6-B7E5-9793CEA56B2D.jpeg

Here’s some more of the rocks.

Looking back up from the house, I was about at the green dot when I took the pic looking down.

Yes, an old run-down dairy farm when we bought it. A few beef cows now, but most of the land is woods (and rocks).

You must have a lot of wildlife. Black bears? Winter is the time to make the climb and see the view!

Nice setup and property. Looks like your property and mine are similar, lots of hills. Luckily it’s all down hill skidding to the house, same for you?

Flamestead I was close to your place last summer and thought about looking you up but it worked out okay as we met anyway. My pleasure.

I’ve never seen a bear here, but the neighbors saw one in our pasture. I have seen bobcat, and crossed a faded trail up there by the rocks that made me think they are still around. I’ve seen two moose once. When the kids were little they came home saying they saw Woody Woodpecker (it was a Pileated). Turkey Vultures and some hawks. Deer, turkeys, and coyote, of course. Red fox. Gray Squirrels. No rabbits.

    Likewise!
If you come east on Rt 11 from Manchester, VT, you’ll need to call ahead as you’ll practically pass through the yard.
