The shops here have utility, mountain and boondocks/crossover machines no trail or touring.

 

I think most would shy away from the expense. I do have ported saws and a square grinder.

 

I'd probably shy away from the bugs if you do it in the summer.
23F with about 2" of fresh snow. More ice coming mid week they say. Ground was hard enough to haul a decent load out yesterday, & I "forgot" the phone for pics. Elm & Beech in the boiler doing it's thing. This freeze & thaw weather is killing me.

 

It could be a moving in/ help unload the uhaul/ wood cutting GTG.

A little less temp, but a little more wind for tonight. The weather will hopefully break tomorrow and bounce between -17 c to -30 c for awhile. Poplar n heating oil.

I'm lovin having a good show to get my wood this winter so far.
It helps that I have access to a 966 to plow the snow and ( fluf the bunches) From the time I left the house to the time I got back was 1 1/2 hours.

 

Listening to you guys talk about "snowmobiles" takes me back to the day of yore....late 70's- early 80's....friends n myself had Yamaha SRX 440's......Polaris TXC 340's n 440's.....Skidoo 9700 Blizzards...thats when we had snow here..
Plus a couple John Deere 5 n 600's with bogey wheels..

 

27*-67*.....still snowin pretty good...got some gingko in to reboot the fire.....kinda nice to see the white again but not the mess that comes with it.....still callin for 3-6 with a little ice....

 

Boggy wheeled John Deere snow machines takes me back to my teens . A dairy farming neighbor ran J D tractors. He bought his snogoes at the same dealer .
Another neighbor had a dirt const company. They ran Arctic Cat sno goes. Eldest sons of each were friends of mine . Man, would they ever argue over which was best. Even in July !

 

Who started this ..I have a 1969 elan electric start 250 to. And 1971 Nordic 399 and went off deep end in late 90s 1997 MXZ 670 it's a serious adrenaline rush. Endless power. 0-100 mph is pretty quick. Need to drive one once to understand what they are.. in old school world of ski Doo it has a Mach 1 motor with single pipe for toque . Its my yellow beast all stock but talk about power. It's one of ski Doo best models if your in to seriously ripping up a trail.

I think it started with slush on lakes, then getting mired in slush, then various snowmobiles. I think we must love the tangents here.

Anyways back on track - kind of...

We are at 15f here. Temps will be stable today with more snow tonight, then another round of snow Thursday. Hey, talking about slush and getting stuck on lakes I am now kind of thinking about this current snow cycle we are in, and getting my spearshack off the lake with my truck in early March, and the possibility of getting stuck.

My next machine will likely be a new Skandic to compliment my pair of Tundras.

I remember the John Deer machines. I had a Polaris TXC 340 too Bear 1998. that was a fun sled in the snow for sure!

 

My best friends parents bought an 8 hp and a 10 hp ski-doo back in the mid 60’s that we rode the hell out of. Then I had a ‘69 and a ‘71 Olympic for ice fishing in the 80’s, both one lungers. They were reliable workhorses but not much good in deep powder. Kinda had to watch out that you didn’t get sucked into the carburetor when you really had ‘em screaming lol. I remember seeing the muffler turn cherry red on the Olympic once when I towed the ice shack a couple miles down the lake through deep snow. It took a couple guys pushing to get her started but after that it was smooth sailing. Just couldn’t stop Great old machines!

Anywho, it’s 15 here, 75 inside with a little pine on the coals. Sunny today, but they’re going back and forth about the storm tomorrow night and Wednesday as far as mixing or not. I’m hoping not. I’d rather have a foot of powder anytime but unfortunately it’s not my choice.
