This would be the sealing ring on the 028 WB gas cap, where can I get the dimensions?

They don't sell them at our local shop (just the new cap) so I was going to try the local hardware store.

Thanks HittinSteel, I did buy a new cap but thought I could get a simple washer for the original cap, I'll give it a try at the local hardware store tomorrow.

I changed my posts around........ the ring is $4.50 shipped, which depending on how much your time and your fuel is worth, may or may not be a good deal. Good Luck.

Good luck and post an actual size of the o-ring if you get one. For future reference and searches :)

I may have one! It's the same as the 034, right? I got one new from my dealer in September... I thought I had a leaky cap but it was just coming out the tank vent. The cap was fine so I didn't replace the 0-ring.
It's yours if you want it, no charge.

Yea I found one on ebay for about that price. I was suspect of my cap too so I just spent the few more dollars for a new cap. My deal did not have a seal either for the 011 I think its a standard thing as there is little price difference.

I picked up the washer (it's different then the original, it sits on top of the groove instead of in it, can this cause a problem?) The washer is on it at the moment, it stopped the leak, I also picked up an O ring, I might give that a try.

Can you have the seal be to tight? The washer was .45 cents and the O ring was .85 cents. The thickness is 1/8.

I dont know, thats the stihl part number in the thread title.

If it stopped the leak your probably good. And yes you can overtighten a cap and actually increase the leak.

Yeah. As Hittin said, it can be to tight.

When they are in good shape, you can just hand tighten. My 036, I just had tighten.

I put the new gas cap on last night, I'll start it up later today. When I started it up with the old gas cap with the new washer on it, the saw seemed to idle different.

I talked with our local shop this morning, he said I might need to see if the fuel line vent has two plugs, if it does he suggest maybe taking one out so I could see if it runs better.

The oiler gear on the 310 is fixed, the old one was shot.
