yes...this! You might be surprised how many people want you on a icy and/or snowy roof! When we do a winter install with a center chimney and a liner, its always with the caveat of "weather permitting"! It just isnt worth having a worker killed or injured for a couple hundred bucks! But there's always that homeowner who seems to be put out.....I did have the guts once to ask someone "How much would someone have to pay YOU to climb a ladder and get on your roof today?".......their answer...."Couldnt pay me enough........oh....."! LOL
The people at urgent care were a bit surprised I walked in under my own power. Still sore but getting a bit better.
Wow dude , I'm glad It was not worse . I have one of these Werner Roofing Safety System-K211201 - The Home Depot I use another rope with it , Throw it over and hook it to tree or The deck railing Depending on what part I need to get up on
A lot of people mix the heat or cool treatment up. You need to use cold to get the inflammation down. After the inflammation is gone, then you can use the heat. It usually takes about 2 weeks give or take depending on the severity of the accident. https://www.columbiaspine.org/heat-vs-ice-for-back-pain-use-what-works/
I have seen a number of members relay stories of getting bit by their chainsaw or have other close calls when working with wood. This is just another example of what can happen if you have a lapse of judgement. I hope my misfortune will stop others from making the same mistake I made. Seeing pics of the aftermath of a chainsaw accident isn't a pretty picture but it drives home the need for PPE's and attention to what you are doing. I don't mind being the guy who fell off a roof if it prevents someone else from making the same mistake. Thanks for all the concern shown and well wishes. This is a great site and great members.
Good thing you weren't hurt any worse than you where , could have been a real catastrophic. Hopefully everyone on the forum will heed your advise.
Get well soon Erik B! Although I occasionally like to take risks, falling from the roof is not the type of risk I wanna take. Glad to hear your on the mend. Could a been a lot worse. Sorry about the loss of your friend JWinIndiana
Hope your not too sore tonight Erik, sorry about the accident. That said, you are no spring chicken anymore, please be really careful with yourself, we need you here
Yes, it does work for some but certainly not for all. I did give in once to try it. Result? Couldn't walk the rest of the day and really hurt a lot worse than before. No doubt with me it is because of the polio I had. Cold on post-polio people usually does very bad things but it is also very difficult to get this through to therapists. After all, they know better. It is almost the same with doctors. After all, how many doctors that practice medicine today have even seen a patient with polio let alone treated one. As for me, I'll stay away from the ice treatments.
Understood. I think your situation is a bit different than most people though. I've got a friend that used heat after an injury and only prolonged their recovery time as well as how long they hurt. I'm not a doctor, but I did major in biology as well as stayed at a few holiday inn's over the years.
Wild Turkey Rare Breed aint got none of that fizzy stuff either...whatever is good for your taste budds i reckon. Prost!
And that is why they call it a medical practice! You would think that they would listen to the patient.
On ice after an injury. Yes, immediately after an injury it can and will help keep the swelling down and that, in theory will decrease the pain or at least should not allow it to get worse. However, this is a very short time frame. Once the swelling is beginning to decrease then heat will do much more than ice to relieve the pain. I also stayed at a Holiday Inn once...
