They are! Size medium, a little too big for me. Very tough, very warm, not very flexible. I like them for handling wood, but not for splitting wood, where I need a more flexible grip on the maul. I put the waterproofing wax on, but haven't gotten them wet yet. I'm hoping they will break in and become a bit more bendable. But for now, great for moving splits!
They do break in, may take getting them wet and letting them dry to shrink. You can also spend a few minutes just flexing/bending, wringing them to soften (not while wearing them). Most leather, needs to be worked to become soft. I look forward to seeing how well they hold up for you.
Some below zero temps coming and some cooler days with high in the single or low double digits for here. It is snowing pretty good right now.
Hit the 50s here today! Not much impact on the snow cover, ground was still quite cold from the bout of negative temps. Took advantage of the temps to let the stove run down and spin the soot eater up the chimney. Fair bit of crud up near the cap, but nothing to worry about. Mostly fine powder, maybe a few cups full. If I can stay in the dry-ish wood until spring, I guess I'll wait until then to give it another go. Had plenty of coals to stoke up after, so we've got some red maple cruising on low to keep the 70s alive.
Don't hear that much...Keep the 70s alive...disco inferno lives! But yes I agree 2 wonderful days of mid 50s. I went out with my soon to be fiance and cut maple and sycamore to make a load. A second set of hands make for light work...and I had him use the saw....so welcome another convert to the fold.
Same with any subject out there, he is just an expert on it. Drives me nuts and the really sad thing is, it costs him so much in so many ways. Oh well, I avoid him most of the time and keep him from running the stove. At least he pays his rent. Great having the furnace back on line, so life is good. Plus side, picked up a new to me wood hauler today.
Nice looking setup! 2 blowers & the mower, not to shabby. 37F & dropping now, supposed to be 26 by morning. Most everything is melted off but the piles. Kinda drab & dreary. I look forward to the sun & re freeze. Saturday forecast is for 20 & sun, so back to the fence rows! Oak in the boiler.
Thanks, seems to run like a champ. I'm told it has about 20 hours on complete overhaul. Bring on the snow. Thinking of selling the second blower as I don't need 2, but doesn't have any brackets.
-24c/-11f tonight. Weve had quite a bit of wind the last few days especially the other night. Im looking forward to heading into the woods to see if there are any trees down. The stove is loaded with larch for overnight and Im sitting in front of it with a sweat while watching the last Alaskans.
46* - 65*....cleanin stove n chimney today....got fire it back up even know itll be in the mid 50's today.....hate hearin the furnace runnin....
37 and 77 here this morning after the upper 40’s yesterday, 50 predicted this afternoon, then back into the teens by tomorrow morning so back to reality. Burning the coals down and I’ll keep it from going out so we can keep it above 70 inside without turning on the heat pump. Why pay for electricity when I have wood? It’s been running during the real cold weather and that will add enough to the bill. *$&#@%* electric company just raised rates another 14% after a double digit increase last year. I see solar panels in my future
Let the fire go out yesterday. The furnace has been handling the heating of the house . Yesterday was mid to upper 50's, today is supposed to be about the same. Back down to 30* tonight so will start a fire again. Gonna be warm enough the rest of the week that just an overnight fire will be needed. Back to more seasonable temps this weekend.
Nice mild temps this morning. Spruce has it a little on the warm side, haven’t checked the inside temp but feels in the upper 70’s.
Same thing here I started it back up LN before bed and loaded for an overnight. Through a couple splits on this AM to take chill out but will let it die out. Suppose to be 60 today!
More of the same, our weather seems stuck. Poplar n heating oil on the menu. The weather is supposed to sort of break by Monday. Our daytime highs will actually warm up to -2 F ballpark apparently. Yay.
