Cleaned both stoves today and waxed the hopper's as I was not willing to try the Pam not have it work and then have the stoves down even longer as when they are down the oil furnace chugs away, that really annoys me. Loaded the P43 with T&D wood pellets as they are about the worst as far as funneling and upstairs loaded the hopper with Matra's See how they do but initial reaction downstairs not so good but I also skipped the sanding portion of the deal. So maybe if it don't work I'll either do some sanding and re-wax the suckers or if it warms enough Ill give the Pam a go...
Lunet are you getting all the sap and buildup off pre waxing? I used some orange stuff that smelled sort of solventy to get the sap off pre wax.
It did not appear to be a lot and I used an all purpose cleaner to attempt doing so but maybe I have to sand with some high grit sandpaper as Dan had suggested. Woke up to a very cold downstairs this morning and sure enough the P43 had shut down with half a hopper full. Going to be warm this afternoon maybe if I can find time ill give it another go , if I don't have time I will have to mix in some Okie's Ashinums or screw it maybe some Northern Max so I don't bugger up the stove before Wednesday night when it is going to get negative. Just have a lot of crap to take care of today but heh priorities right . The Upstairs stove did fine but it was a mix of Matra's DF and Logik-e which seems to be good as far as funneling . As mentioned the straight up T&D are very sticky more so than any pellet I have burned, the stove loves them low ash good heat but funnels like a mofo. Thanks daffonce
Yep I had figured so as I am a woodworker and have from 30 grit to 320 grit sandpaper and lots of it, would make perfect sense to go in the same direction of the flow of pellets somewhat like sanding with the grain of wood but different of course. Does not look like it will be happening today though..... Thanks again
The 802's I bought last year funnel in my P68 and my neighbors P43. No other pellets have done this for me and from what I understand is a characteristic of 802 but before they could rectify the formula they went under. Top notch pellet otherwise. Currently I am mixing in a little Crabbe with the 802 and havnt had any issue....although it did take a while to develop and I only started buring this last pallet a few days ago. Tried the clean, sandpaper and spray graphite thing....it would help for a day or two but that was it. Overall, slvrblkk suggestion of fondling the pellets works best. get your hand in there and spread em around once or twice a day.
Neighbors P43 seemed more susceptible than the larger hopper on my P68. They had similar issues of half hopper shutdown. Mine would empty down to about 1/8-1/4 so it wasnt as bad. It also may have been that I sanded and graphited the hopper to try an minimize the issue.
This is very true as the P43 is really very bad at funneling at least 3-4 times as bad as the P68. Pam well ok did not work as it was still cold when I tried to do it and I took a blow drier to it all the time thinking WTH this is oil with who knows what additive and how the heck do you dry oil ? You don't ended up wiping off the excess after a while and going for it with straight T&D which is the worse funneling pellet I have ever burned. No go while not as bad it was still bad enough and I will be sanding it off lightly and hitting it with some wax. Because of whatever it is in the design of the hopper it really funnels bad with sticky pellets, without sticky pellets it burns great and efficient .
I assume thats with a nice slickery softy. Try some Vermonts/AWF softies and see what you get...........
Will have to wait until next year for that... I only tried them for two days. But every time I do a good clean, I recoat the hopper with the Mother's... It's usually very slippery. Now if you all are saying that the pellets stick together, that is a different monster entirely. I cannot comment on that. Plus... like anything else, your mileage may vary, I am not saying that the sanding smooth and wax will work for everyone, And honestly, I doesn't matter to me. I just pass on what works on "my" two stoves. And I'm happy with the results. Dan
Dan i agree, the winter that i had 5 ton of awf wp it took a while to get the funneling to occur. Probably a few tons.i did a good cleaning with some orange stuff. Then i tried car wax amd a dry ptfe. If i did one or the other every couple of weeks i had no issue.
