I've hit him a few times. Got him with the van once or twice also. He tends to get out of the way pretty quick now...

My wife gets to hear every day about my desire for an insert for those very reasons. I am really trying to push the fact she can keep the house much warmer. I think she agrees it is first on the list of items to upgrade.

I have read it a couple times now. Once when I stumbled upon it and another when I saw it linked and I recognized your name. I am sure I will read it again.

Excellent write-up, Gourley! It is the TRUE ESSENCE of a real firewood hoarder that leads to those observations. Sounds like you are enjoying the fruits of your labor, that's a win-win.

Natural gas. We did have fuel oil about 6 years ago when we got the house and it was lacking insulation. We were unable to afford heating like that and had to dip into savings every month.

I have a few relatives that have had some addiction issues so I have always steered away from beer.

We had insulation blown in most of the rooms and got new windows. One room didn't get insulation blown in and you can tell it, the plan was to demo that room but that step was skipped.

Yes, please set aside a coffee can to put pennies in for this purchase. So, so, so, so, so much better than a simple fireplace.
