    Thanks wildwest ...

Welcome to FHC Sean Easterly :handshake:... Your probably about 45 minutes south of me...

Cant say what that bigger wood is. But you thought that it smelled and looked correctly for Sass... But bottom left pieces look to be young mulberry and I see a small piece of Hackberry on the back right side (rough bark white meat).....

Welcome Sean, no clue on the wood, but I have the same saw as well. Great looking place you have there.

Welcome and good way to start with the pictures we like pictures!!!:handshake: I have some large sassafras that are similar to what you have there. The bark has the orange inside but looks way to deep and the hart wood does not look right. That said I will still go with sassafras

Welcome to the club. Bunch of great folks on here. We like to give counseling on your addiction...er... hoarding...I think you will enjoy it here. Nice saw and great looking place. We have sassafras down here in the south, but usually not that big, so I'll save the guessing...

Cottonwood was an interesting thought...it is the state tree of Kansas. I got this off of the dam and am going back there with a buddy to cut tomorrow. I will see if he knows what it is.

Either cottonwood or sassafras is what it looks like to me. There is a world of difference in the smell of those two! Also the cottonwood would be heavy when cut green but the sassy is not so heavy.

Here is a picture of the trunk of three tree and the land upon which it was situated...Still not positive, but based on another post I was leaning towards black locust? IMG_2579.jpeg

Certainly possible. It smells SO GOOD when it is burned...almost like incense.

You’ll know better in a couple weeks when it puts off shoots on the stump.

Welcome Sean Easterly, you’re gonna like it here, I guarantee it! As stated, we like pics, dogs and beer. We also like spending your money on accoutrements to enhance your addiction,,,err,,,I meant hoard. For example, if you need something new, another saw, splitter, etc...just ask and we’ll bless it, coach and counsel-its really that easy! Lots of great folks here willing to lend advice or a hand.

    Nice to meet you :handshake:
