Don't know much about the firewood but a hearty welcome to you! Jeans, flannel shirt, and chainsaw. I'd say you will fit in here fine! Any fish in that pond?

Hey Sean Easterly , welcome aboard. Which saw is that in your hands?
I'll guess the wood is Willow?

    Welcome!

It kinda looks like sassafras to me. If it has a strong root beer'ish odor, than that's it. It'll spark quite a bit too when burned.

if it smells like root beeer it could be sassafras although the bark seems a bit thick.
Bark seems a bit thick for locust too. Not much locust around here.
    Hmmm.

Thanks for the warm welcome, all! Yes - there are fish in the pond: bass and sunfish primarily, but we are adding grass carp and channel cat to keep the pond weed down.

Sassafras sounds (and smells!) right!! Interesting...and good call. I know it is not willow.

The saw is my brand new Stihl MS 250...first saw I have ever owned. I just upgraded to a yellow chain and am going to clear some trees on the dam this weekend...in addition to cutting up and splitting some walnut logs at my neighbors.

I have two dogs - a Viszla (Rusty - Hungarian Pointer) who is six months old and a boxer who is like ten year (Fiona). Happy to join the boards!!

Welcome aboard Sean Easterly First, let exp0ress my sympathy for living in that broken down shack in the background of your first pic. It seems obvious that whoever took the pic of you forgot all about the potential for embarrassment of including such a run down ram shackle dwelling. No wonder you burn wood.....probably for sleeping outside by the fire pit, right?

Secondly, and in answer to your question, the first thing I thought of when I saw the firewood was also what papadave thought. Willow. But, I have no knowledge of sassafras, so take it for what its worth! :salute:

Keep posting and don't forget the pics for us members that like to look and not read!

Cool. I was curious, because my brother just got either a 250 or 260. He gave his oldest his Jonsered 2165, and son bought him the Stihl.
I have the 17 cu ft version of your poly trailer, and love it (probably because I haven't broken it yet).

Just FYI on the pond... dont do the grass carp if you care for the other fish...

The grass is the heart of the ecosystem, it spurs life. It protects the young, it filters the sediment, it houses bugs for food etc etc...

The carp will clean it out, and your thriving heart will be diseased, and everything else will stunt and die off.

Not a clue on the wood hahahaha

I’m thinking back to the last Sass I cut... altho it was smallish in diameter, it was pretty consistently light colored.
So I’m not sure what Sean Easterly has there.
Speaking of which... welcome to FHC Sean- stick around and learn up some FHC knowledge. And share yours!

Welcome Sean Easterly to FHC lots of great information and recommendations hear. Nice looking saw.
The bark looks a bit like locust but the growth rings tell me no! I think its Catalufa.
