wow, half a face cord in one day? Basswood and willow on the menu? I have a large indoor furnace....i can fit 4 maybe 5 12 inch rounds in it that are 18 inches long at once, along with a 3200 sq ft house and I burn that in 3 days. I do burn only properly dried higher BTU hardwoods, and the house is well insulated. Unless you made an error, you get the throughput award i would say :dex:

I keep the Cottenwood for kindling and fast hot restarts.

I’ll be trying to keep up with ash and maple on Wednesday, 1/2 a face cord might be more than I can bite off!

I’ve burned plenty of box elder, it burns so fast I get just as much exercise refilling the box as I do CSS! A full box can literally be gone in 1 hour burning on high!

I think the NG will be kicking in:headbang: pretty sure I won’t be able to keep up with wood, but I’ll be giving it my best shot!

Are you restricting the airflow at all? How many times are you emptying ashes for half a face cord?

Do you use a fire pit in the garage for heat and leave the door open too??

A couple of armloads, I fill up my breezeway with about 3-4 wheelbarrows worth. When it gets real cold I probably can clear it out in 5 days.
    About 4' high and I don't know 4-5' long.

Full airflow in, damper closed, that’s how my set up creates the most heat. Ash will get pretty full, might have empty ash once if I let it burn down enough

Most I've burned was about three weeks ago, temps in the 20's and I just placed the heating loop for my garage in service (800 sf, partially insulated). I went from two moderate "feedings" a day to three, and that particular 24-hour period while bringing the slab up to temp I burned about 60-70 cubic feet of wood. Mostly soft maple and cherry, which don't have the best BTU content. I have been getting much better luck with some beech, white oak and black birch, but most of that is not well dried.

With my old Longwood dual fuel furnace, a stiff East wind, poor insulation & temps near zero, I burned 65 cubic feet in a 24 hr period. Keep in mind that was heating 1600 sq feet of auto shop with 3 overhead doors going up & down also. I burned that kind of volume on more than one occasion too. All those issues have been rectified except temp & wind. Can't seem to fix that.

    Whoa! Never .

I have my doubts about fully loading the stove to be the most efficient way to get max heat. It's definitely the best best for a long lasting fire. But even still .. I dont think I could consume that much in a day.

i also have a 6048 heating 2 houses. I can easily put 2 6 cu. ft. Wheelbarrows on at one time & since I tend the fire twice a day that’s 4 wheelbarrows & truly that’s on the conservative side. Now 1/2 a face cord is only 21 or so cu. ft. of wood so 1/2 a face cord in 24 hours is no problem whatsoever. Incidentally do you burn coal in your 6048?

In this kind of weather 4+ wheelbarrows in 24 hours is no problem at all.

2k sq ft two story here... On the coldest day .. Yesterday ... with everyone home and the stove in constant use we went thru 2 x2 ish area of the garage stack. Two big thick locust splits across each other was sufficient to keep her chooching at 500-700, with blue flames a lot.
