Wow, sorry to heat that! My wife just seen a facebook post from friends of ours that had CO alarms going off last night...they had been using their gas logs. They got out while the fire dept verified (CO was high) and then aired the place out...they have orders to not use the fireplace again until it gets checked out/serviced.
That's crazy. The snow is deep here, I don't mess with the gas stuff because I don't have a gas fitters license, but I believe a direct vent system only needs to be 3 feet above ground. These newer units are sooo efficient that the exhaust venting is only PVC pipe- doesnt get hot, doesn't melt snow if it's buried. Snow depth here about 3 feet deep, not including another 3-6 feet that come off of the metal roofs. Folks need to remember to dig out their vending. Unfortunate that most, don't even know to do this.
That's horrible. So sorry to hear that. My propane furnace vent is right at my Bronco mirror height. Thankfully, it's on the side of the house and the wind funnels up that side and doesn't drift there.
Carbon monoxide poisoning suspected in deaths of man, woman in Lyman you knew these folks, i saw this on the news ,so awful to see these things
