The cold snap of 2019

A couple of days ago the forecast was for a more prolonged cold and depth of cold time period.
Now that forecast has gotten tempered quite a bit.


It has been cold here when the ice breakers have to run thru the Cape Cod Canal for the gas and oil barge traffic headed to Boston, New Hampster and Maine.

 

This is from the La Crosse, WI, weather service office Wednesday night headed for a low of -35.

A friend of mine sent me a picture taken today about 2 blocks from my place. Yup this is what cold looks like!

 

Snowing up to 5” in my area of Connecticut tonight followed by a drop to 0 degrees on Wednesday night with 12 mph winds. The soapstone stove is doing it’s job, so the bright side is good safe ice to fish ,finally ,on the bigger lakes. Hey, this is why we cut all that wood - time to enjoy it. I hope all in the Midwest are ok - that is some serious cold.

 

-6 tonight, -2 tomorrow, -9 tomorrow night, 8 Thur. then 2 above Thur. night before we get back in the teens.

 

Could see -28 tomorrow night. Not too pleasant. Stove is working OT.

 

A bit nippy here.

 

Excuse the glare and lack of focus shooting through the window, but we are just south of -30° @ 10 pm.

You folks in the northern mid- west are really getting clobbered with this cold front. It is coming here too but nothing like the temps. there- it is supposed to be 4F, 8F and 12F at the coldest point for the next three days. These are pretty low temps. for us here but no where near any records; last year it hit -9F and that was a record (nasty too). I do not know why it is not getting even colder here but that cold front must be getting watered- down on the way.
